“Perfect Location and would stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

My husband & I visited here at beginning of December '12. Couldn't believe how close to everything we were & wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I find it quite ridiculous that some people are so derogatory about this hotel. Agreed that it's not the Hilton or Waldorf Astoria but you're smack bang in the middle of Manhattan and surely it's just a place to sleep at night?! We were up & out every day by 7am and didn't return til 9pm(quite literally exhausted from our full days activities) and so for us we had a warm cosy room, hot running water & a decent bed for a good nights sleep. It is very worn & quaint in parts but I think it adds to the character of the place. The deli next door was fabulous and Starbucks was just across the road, so for us it was just what we wanted without a stupidly high price tag. We also had an inside room (508) and found it very quiet and you would never have known you were a block from Times Square. Purely for location & price, give it a go!

We stayed here for a few nights in Dec 2012. Location of this hotel is excellent, minutes away from times square. Hotel is a little dated, but our room was clean and thats really all that mattered! Our view was a backyard, but who goes to NY to sit and look out the window? If i had to complain about anything it would be the room was too warm, but the window opened......just cant imagine staying here in the height of summer with no air con! I would however return if travelling through winter, ideal location at a reasonable price!

It was a short 1 night trip to NYC. The priority was a centrally located hotel that would not add that much value to the trip. St James is in Times Square and considering the New York prices it was not expensive. The front desk is somewhat cosy with dark wood panels and furniture, but the room in tiny and old. With an old carpet, bed and sheets, it does not scream spotless and clean, that´s for sure. The bathroom tiles, bath and sink are also old. The tv is small. Bottom line: I would not pay to stay there again, but considering I only needed it for 1 night it was not tragic.

You can't get closer to Times Square for the money. Great location and friendly staff. They don't have room service or ice machines but that's a small price to pay when you can stay 1/2 a block from Times Square. We're staying here next time we go to NYC.

Room Tip: Ask for room 210 - 212. Super quiet and near the stairs. Never need to wait for an elevator.

This hotel gets full marks for location. Located in the theatre district of Manhattan and the street runs into Times Square. The hotel is an older variety and the rooms are small, however they are clean, warm and central to many attractions. There is a fantastic eatery right next door where you can get almost anything. Close to Subway too. I found the staff friendly and helpful. I really didnt have any issues with this hotel. I would most certainly stay there again.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff were rude, the rooms were diabolical and cheap though it was, it was still over-priced given the regrettable experience.

The location is very good but don't make the mistake we did and think that location is all you need in NY and the hotel 'can't be that bad'; it can! Trust me!

I have nothing more to say that would not involve a page of expletives! This place is pathetic!

We stayed a couple of years ago (not Feb 2012 as stated) but my justifiably damning review has been taken off for some reason (presumably as they didn't like it).

Room Tip: Sleep elsewhere!!

The location was great so local to so many attractions, the actual rooms were tiny and badly in need of refurbishment, would stay again for location though! The walk to times square is about 5 minutes and only 20 to central station
