Great location but bare bones hotel. Small , basic but clean. Cafe next store is fantastic with all types of food, open 24 hrs Especially coffee in the am. AC is a small window unit....enough to take some heat but not summer comfy. My husband would not ave liked this

Room Tip: No view of city

I have stayed with this hotel several times now. Each time it was a treat. The staff are very caring and interested in your satisfaction and security. The hotel is amongst Time Square, so if your trip is all about Manhattan or Time Square, this is definitely the place to stay. This hotel is maybe the best value in the area, it is lower on cost and although simple in what it offers, it is safe and everything I know I needed and maybe a bit extra. Every time I go to Manhattan and Time Square, I stay here, just an easy walk to Maceys, Broadway and a delicious deli next door and a cool Irish pub next to that! They say you get what you pay for, but I assure you that you will get more than you pay for when you stay here. The staff are so sweet, especially the manager Margaret, it seems it her goal to make you feel awesome and so special. Something not found everywhere in NYC!

Room Tip: The rooms are simple, take an alarm clock with you if you need one and maybe an iron. Ask for a high...

For the money we paid my husband and I were very pleased with this hotel. It really is just two blocks away from Times Square and has good cheap restaurants, cafes and bars right on it's doorstep. The room was clean, the bed comfy and the room very quiet which meant it was a relaxing haven after the hustle and bustle of Manhattan! The staff were pleasant and were very helpful when I felt I was ripped off by the small technical shop next door who overcharged me considerably for a USB cable by checking prices on the internet so I could compare and confront him with the comparisons,

We pretty much walked everywhere and saw all the usual sites without having to use the tube system much at all (which was probably a good thing as we found it very confusing to use even though we use the underground in London regularly).

Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a reasonable standard of hotel right in the heart of NYC!

Room Tip: If you are worried about noise from outside just ask for a quiet room.

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading some other reviews on this site, but I have to say that my traveling companions and I were pleasantly surprised by what the Hotel St. James had to offer. If you're looking for a 4 star hotel, this is probably not the place for you, but if what you want is a clean hotel in an excellent location, then the Hotel St. James will meet your needs. Upon entering, it is clear that this is an older building, however it is clean and well kept and the staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed on the top floor and found the room to be clean and comfortable, there was a window unit air conditioner that sufficiently cooled the room for our stay in the middle of July. This hotel has medium-large lockers available (large enough to store even very large suitcases) at very reasonable rate, ($5 for 24 hours) for those wishing to store things before check in/or after check out times. I may have mentioned it already, but it merits repeating...the location is unbeatable. Less than a block from Times Square and close to a Subway station that can take you virtually anywhere in the city, within walking distance from Grand Central Terminal, I will definitely recommend this hotel to others and stay here on return visits.

The Hotel Saint James is a bare bones type of Hotel. No room service or anything like that, but the location is perfect, right in the heart of time square. The biggest plus for this hotel is the cleanliness, it is very clean! I loved that. It was a bit pricey for what it offered but in a way the cleanliness of the hotel made up for it. The staff was very friendly, with the exception of one rude older balding gentleman (I do not know his name). I would most probably stay at the Hotel Saint James again...it was a good experience and a great location. **But could have been slightly cheaper for what it offered.**
