I often stay at the Hotel Alex on business and have reviewed this hotel several times in the past. The hotel is under new management and unfortunately my recent experiences there have been very disappointing. I will highlight two areas: service and maintenance.
Having stayed there twice this year 2013, let's start with maintenance. It is not one problem but many little issues that just add up whether it is missing knobs on a desk, non-working lamps, a non-working TV (the cable was unplugged), and a non -working TV remote control (needed new batteries). The shower knob in my bathroom was loose and despite reporting it to the front desk, it was never repaired.
On the issue of service, some of the front desk desk staff are just plain mean and surly. I had an issue with my bill when checking out. I was charged $15 for internet service which puzzled me as it was complimentary last time I visited. The woman at the front desk, rather than acknowledging me for a customer who stays 20-30 days a year at the hotel (for the last 8 years) said that no she would not waive the charge, and that not charging me for several days internet use last time was a mistake. I guess that mangement figures that most customers are either corporate and thus have few choices in where they stay, or are foreign tourists who are unlikely to be repeat customers so why make custoemr service part of the experience?
I want to point out that although the hotel participates in the iPrefer loyalty program, it only applies if you book the room through the iPrefer website. Otherwise, no matter how many times you stay at the hotel you will recieve NO amenities or benefits
