“A Blessing in Little Britain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

This is truly one of those rare finds in the USA. A bit of real British culture deposited in downtown Manhattan. We love this place.

“Who Says British Cuisine is an Oxymoron?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Yes, this restaurant has a few rules, but only because it is tiny. You might have to wait a bit for a table, and you might have to pay a lot for the food, but it's worth it. We have eaten in this restaurant four times now, and have loved every visit. Most recently we visited on a late Sunday afternoon for the Sunday Roast. I had the chicken and my husband had the roast beef. Both of us loved it. Our plates were filled with plenty of meat, roasted potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy. We did not have room for dessert but we were tempted. There are also less expensive options to choose from on the menu. We love the cozy atmosphere of this restaurant. The tables are packed closely together, and we generally interact with people around us. The waitresses are all very friendly. This establishment is part of a trio of businesses that includes A Salt and Battery - a fish and chips take out which we have also tried and loved and a shop that sells British imports. If you think that British food is bland, Tea and Sympathy might just change your mind.

“know the rules”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

While the lure of some hearty british food is hard to resist,
its best to know the rules
- big minimum
- everyone has to order food [no tea and snack]
- 20% tip not just expected but demanded
- short on space so eat on small tables

sorry to be a downer but this all reduces the enjoyment of the eating experience.

£ experience that cost £££
as Harry might say
'thinks they are low maintenace but are high maintenance' :)
