“Small gem in central park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

I love this zoo. It's small but in a beautiful setting. It's unique in that you can see views of buildings in the background. You need to know going in that it has a limited amount of animals. To me the penguins are the best feature. If you go at 10:30 or 2:30 you can see them being fed. That was fun to watch.

Seals and Penguins are the best attractions at this zoo, very small walked around whole zoo in about 30 mins. Cafe not good too, undercooked pizza.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Whilst the zoo is accessible and in the wonderful setting of Central Park, I found our visit there very disappointing. The Snow Leopard was in full view and was wonderful to see. We then made our way to the polar bear pen and peered in and could see nothing and thought we'll get a better view from the other side and it was there that there was a small notice advising that the bear had died! An unfortunate incident, but it could have been advertised beforehand. Having said that, we would most probably still have gone in because we had no idea how small the zoo is and how few animals are there. All in all a very disappointing visit.

“Small but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

We visited this zoo in September of 2013. The weather was fantastic which was good because the majority of the zoo i outdoors. This zoo is fairly small when compared to your average zoo, but people have to remember that it is a zoo in Manhattan so it won't be a sprawling wildlife sanctuary. Also, unfortunately there are no animals from Madagascar other than penguins so don't expect to see them there.
Overall the zoo is very reasonably priced (about 25 bucks for adults) and worth a visit. There are quite a few different species, but the most impressive is the snow leopard. During our visit the leopard was in plain sight for long periods of time. These are very rare, and it is worth visiting to see such a rare animal. Unfortunately, their polar bear had just died so his enclosure was empty. This was unfortunate but obviously an unavoidable part of animal life. They also have a large penguin enclosure with tons of different penguins. This zoo will only take you a couple hours, but worth the price of admission.
