I stayed here in August 2012 with a friend as we travelled from Australia. We were looking for a cheap place to stay on Manhattan Island that was close and assesable to the subway. The photos on the website didn't look to bad so we thought we would stay here.
WORST CHOICE EVER!!
We got to the hotel and were greeted by 40 steps upto the 'lobby', we had suitcase each and other bags, and hotel staff did not offer anyhelp! Carrying heavy suitcases is not what 2 18 yr old girls want to do. We then go our key and opened the door of room 203, we couldn't do anything but laugh when we saw what our room for the next seven nights was going to be. There was a bed that was smaller than a double bed and bigger than a single, two bed side tables and no room for our bags! After getting 2 bags in, we had floor space only big enough to swing the door open. The tv which was promised to bed a flat screen, only had one channel that spoke English and was about politics, was no interested. We had just worked at a summer camp so we originally weren't fazed over sharing a bathroom, once we saw the state of it we were! I used the complimently "hotel" thongs to shower in because there was no way I was letting my feet unclothed in that shower! The state of the bathrooms were distrusting, there was hair everywhere, and it wasn't only head hair, there was mold and dirt all over the shower. I think this was due to the hotel staff not cleaning and bleaching the bathrooms daily and the fact that other guests were also very dirty and unsanitary. It was very annoying only having 2 bathrooms to share with about 30 guests, especially when in the night you really had to use the toliet and you had to wait about five minutes, only to wish you hadn't due to the discusting dirty state of the toilets.
Sleeping. DID NOT GET ANY! The state of the bed was discusting, my friend and i did not even get under the covers because we were to scared about what we would find. Thank god we had a small blanket each which kept us warm, and sometimes when the air was to cold we would use what we referred too of the 'sex' blanket which we would only place ontop of our other blanket, it was called this to the discusting marks and dirtiness of it. NOISE, there was way to much. Every single word said at night I could here, people coming home at 3am could be heard. The annoying snorer would constantly wake me up from what ever little sleep I would get.
The only positive thing about this hotel was the free wifi, which would occasionally cut out. The McDonald's down the road was also helpful for midnight food cravings. The hotel staff were also very helpful, especially when I lost my passport and I needed to use their phone and printer, but I wold expect that kind of help from any hotel service.
Even thought this place was cheap, I would not pay money to stay in a place like this. If I am paying to stay somewhere i accept the place to be clean, to have a window, And if you are offering a double room make it clean that it's a tight squeeze for one person, let alone two!
I would never stay here again, nor recommend this place to anyone. In the future I would rather pay more money to stay somewhere where I felt safe and that was CLEAN!
