“Good location, clean and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2011

It's a very cheap and nice hostel. The staff is friendly and the location is really good, it's not in downtown but it's right next to a metro station.

The only things I would change of this hostel are: 1) Lack of atmosphere: The hostel doesn't have activities or a lot of common spaces for meeting people. 2) Too many rules. You must follow a bunch of rules that sometimes are not the best.

Hello,

I v spend a small week in that Hostel with my brother and my 2 cousines ... basicely we where Up at 8am and came back everiday at 1 am ;-) The location of the Hostel is really cool .. if you stay for a week, just get a subway pass (27$) and basicely you can go aniwhere in the city from the Hostel. The cool part of the location is that you have a subway stop just next the Hostel ! ANd the subway IS really safe! never had any trubles with anibody.

The hostel it self is not the Big luxe BUT really clean. ( not like the other comment you can read online) Each room have they own bathroom / restroom. When you arrived you have to give a 10$ for key deposit that you get back at the end of the trip. The hostel crew is really friendly. you have Internet in the lobby .. I had my laptop with me and even got a neigthbur wierless connection in my room ...

If any of my friend would hask me a place to stay i would definitely recomend that place. cause i rather pay 20$ a nigth and spend the rest of my budjet on shopping than the other way arround ;-)

The onely part that i dident like. is that you cant take your suitcase with you in the room. But it wasent really a big deal. Just not really use to it ;-) The suitcase have to stay in the lobby who is lockt at nigth and during the day there is always somone from the hostel in the lobby with them. No one of our familly had aniproblem with the suicase. A suitcase with a lock is always a PLUS ! P.S: i left my laptop everiday in my suicase!

The athmosphere i found in the hostel was really simillar of the athmosphere i had in hostel arround the world: Thailand, florida, south africa, ...

This was my first time in NYC so perhaps that's why I liked this place so much but I have to say that the staff were young and fun and overall I had a brilliant time. The location is great, very close to tube or a nice stroll to Central Park. I thought at first ,my belongings were not very safe as the staff leave it in their office however once you know them, you know your valuables are in good, trusted hands.

Well, it's your usual hostel, bunkbeds shared with alot of unknown people, cleanish bathroom, a nice big sparse lounge in the basement with a kitchen, fridge, cutlery @ other housewares. Cable TV on a giant screen. The staff did their job fine, nothing spectacular but ok. The price reflects the place, there were definatley bed bugs in the provided sheets and blankets i've been itching for days. But just take your own sleeping bag, the option of storing your bag in the office is very usful and don't listen to other reviews that say it's locked, they're available from 9am-10pm.
A good hostel for those who've travelled through hostels before and understand the culture, if you've never stayed in one before you might want to try somewhere else.

  • Liked — Large bathroom and luggage safety
  • Disliked — Bed bugs
  • Tips/Secrets — Cheap and the staff would probably take you to a bar if you wanted.

For those who are not comfortable with sharing a room with 9 people, then click on right now - this is not the place for you.

But that's the point of hostels - they're cheap and cheerful and just a bed to sleep. In the case of the International Student Center that couldn't be more correct! Be prepared to kiss your belongings goodbye!!! No, they won't get stolen. Instead they will be locked away downstairs in reception and only be accessible from reception during reception hours (a few hours in the morning and a few in the late afternoon).
This is all thanks to their NO BAGS IN ROOMS policy - great on paper, poo in practise!
As long as you don't mind being away from clean clothes, sundries, potentially life saving medicines; or don't mind having it all on display on your bed, then this is the hostel for you!

In all fairness the hostel has many positive points. It's right by the park - glorious around Feb when it's sunny but nippy - it's got local ammenities like little shops, cheap takeaways, restaurants and a lovely Starbucks, plus it's far enough away from the hussle and bussle of the city to be peaceful, but still a nice walk from the city centre.
Staying here will save you some pennies and show you a different side of New York to the tourist drenched Times Square, making it an ideal location for the explorer, unfortunately the baggage issue still reigns supreme in my mind, putting a downer on an otherwise idillic place.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — The Inaccessability of Baggae
  • Tips/Secrets — They don't take card, so check-in with cash or they'll just send you round to the grocery store ATM
