Beautiful space in the New-York Historical Society building. Light-filled and pleasant. We had a pleasant leisurely lunch, delicious and with great service. Would return!

“Good for lunch by Natural History Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We ate lunch here yesterday, just before a visit to the American Museum of Natural History. This restaurant is just across the street from the museum, inside the Historical Society building. Although there were hundreds of people waiting in line for the museum, inside the restaurant it was calm, cool, and relaxing, with lots of diners but no crowds, and good space between the tables. The service was prompt, and the food was very good and reasonably priced (for Manhattan). I ate some yummy pappardelle with duck sauce, my son had a delicious prosciutto sandwich, and my husband enjoyed his penne with sausage. If you're planning a visit to the museum, I'd highly recommend coming here for lunch and some peace.

“Great meal at last in NY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Too many steak dinners and unsubtle meal for the casual visitor in NY. Love the city but trying to pick up a good meal by wandering around- which is what I tend to do in London is a tough ask. So read the reviews liked the comments and really enjoyed the food
Good mix of flavours, great service- liked the way the kitchen staff came to deliver the food, really enjoyed a relaxed meal
Well done guys, keep it up

“Perfect Sunday Night Pre-Fixe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here recently on a Sunday night (when some restaurants are closed). And the price of the pre-fixe dinner at $28 for three courses is exceptional by NYC standards! The atmosphere is quite classy with bright museum feel. I'm certain it can be noisy when full because there a few soft surfaces. However we dined later and the noise level was fine. Moreover, the real benefit comes from the "glow" of the stylish room after sunset - absolutely delightful.
As for the food, excellent choices for appetizers (liver crostini), salads and main courses (especially the pasta). Portions are good-sized and there is also a well chosen wine list at reasonable prices. This place is a terrific find on the upper west side!

“This was the hidden gem of my trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Ditching my OH at the American Museum of Natural History, on an unseasonably wet and cold May afternoon, I quickly googled to find dining options nearby and soon selected this Caffe. Bliss! I found an elegant, sunny, quiet room filled with leisurely lunching locals (and yes, I am practising my alliteration on you!) I ordered "rice with peas" which arrived accompanied by wonderful chewy AND crusty bread and a deliciously peppery Sicilian olive oil. The white wine suggested by my server and the macchiato coffee topped off a simple lunch that approached almost orgasmic levels! Simple food done extremely well with fantastic attention to detail and respect for the integrity of the ingredients I would love to work my way through this menu. Lucky bloody locals!!
