Spend money in the nearby bars, don't expect a great room.

We liked the area, the 'cubicles' are not impressive but offer you a private place to leave luggage. don't go here for a romantic stay. Use it for a hard-clubbing / site seeing weekend with friends.

You get what you can expect. The major plus is in the location and the colorful locals in the lobby.

I stayed at the Bowery's Whitehouse Hotel from Augest 6-14, 2004.

I chose the Bowery's Whitehouse Hotel, because i wanted a private room, and did not feel safe with a multi guest room, but did not want to pay the HIGH prices at a regulare hotel, and was traveling on a tight budget.

It was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, compared to the high priced hotels were the staff dont give a damm about the guest. The facilties were as advertised on the website. And there was plenty of restaurants in the area for my dining pleasure. Public transportation very close by(SUBWAY). And plenty of atractions within walking distance.

I would highly recomend you do your research, compare prices, and feel free to call the staff. They are very helpful, and will answer all your questions.

My boyfriend and me stayed at the whitehouse hotel for a week, and since we liked the atmosphere, the location and the friendliness of the staff we didn't change hotels although we felt a distinct tickling on our first nights that felt like insects crawling adross our bodies. As we didn't find any bites the next morning we didn't care. What we didn't know: In some people bed bug bites only show after up to 9 days as the immune reaction sometimes takes a while before kicking in. Now we're both covered in HUNDREDS of huge, red enormously itchy bites that won't let us sleep. The doctor prescribed some heavy immuno-suppressants (which cost about 55$ per person), and we're suffering like hell, even though we've now been home for over a week.

What a pity that all the other cheap hostels we checked out are that ugly and unfriendly - if it wasn't for the bed bugs we would definitely come back again...
