“Great stay and AMAZING LOCATION”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Stayed here for 5 nights and it was a really nice stay. Nice hostel with really nice cafe/bar place in the lobby. Very clean and the rooms were good too. Very simple and what was needed. AMAZING location, right at the heart of Times Square, so near to literally everything and anything you need. Was amazing waking up in the morning and walking 10 seconds out the lobby and seeing all the bright lights of Times Square. Very safe area too.

The hostel is fair. It is located basically in the middle of times square. We got a ensuite for 3. The room was good, there was space enough. The closet was filled with 8 safety locks, maybe because they didn't have anywhere else to put it, but that was fine. The bathroom was clean, although none of the plugs worked. They offer a free breakfast, which is pretty good.
So why did i have a bad experience?
I've been in many, many hostels in my life but I had never experienced such a bad welcome. We arrived close to 10pm and the girl that was in the front desk was clearly bored and was not helpful at all. It felt like she was doing a favor to give us the information about the hostel. Later, when I asked her about where to eat, a place that would be calm and cheap, she just said 'there are a lot of places, just walk on the street.' You see, I'm not blind.. I know there are a lot of places.. I was asking help for something specific.. I was tired and just wanted something easy. She could've just point a direction away from the times square and I would've find something (which eventually I did).
Now, I don't want to generalize. The staff was friendly and helpful, but this girl was always behind the desk with earplugs doing something that was probably really interesting, since she never even bother to raise her eyebrows to wish a good night when we arrived in the hostel. I believe that the hostel is made by their staff.. The reason why I go to hostels is because I know that the staff is not formal and make everything to make you feel good when you are far away from home. Unfortunately, during all my stay she was an unpleasant presence and even tho the hostel was not bad, all I can remember from it is her.

The location of this hotel is truely amazing. you're close to everything and only one block away from Times Square. The staff was very friendly but the rooms are really small. We first got a room with one tiny bed, there were two of us so fortunatly the receptionist was kind enough to give us a room with a bunk bed. One of the towels was dirty and the walls need a new coat of paint, but beside that it was OK. Not a hotel I could stay in for a week though because the rooms are so small. The locations makes up for a lot of the flaws.

Equity Point was great. Check-in and check-out were a hassle- free and took no more than a few minutes. The location is the most fantastic thing about staying here. Right by Time Square, the Port Authority bus terminal and subway stations. Incredible location.

We stayed in a 3 bed ensuite on the 2nd floor for a night. The room itself is quite basic, but much bigger and more spacious than I expected. It wasn't noisy at night. A towel, sheets and a blanket are provided for each single bed. There is AC, several safes for keeping your valuables and important documents, hangers and a small refrigerator in the room. The ensuite bathroom is clean and bright. No shampoo, conditioner or body soap/gel was provided for our use. The only complaint I have would be that the shower water pressure was very low which lengthened shower time. The bathroom handicapped accessible includes a hair dryer and 2 mirrors (large wall mirror and small vanity mirror).

The hostel includes breakfast from 7-10am every morning. They offered hot coffee and water, hot chocolate sachets, milk, a selection of cereal to choose from, strawberry yogurt, bread, toast machine, butter, jam. Completely self-serve and self-clean up. There are basins for used plates, cups and utensils. We didn't get to spend much time in the bar/breakfast area/common room, but it had a nice, chilled atmosphere and the man managing the bar was very friendly. They also have a guitar that you're free to play whilst there.

The hostel offers free wifi. You may have to ask the reception for the password. We checked in pretty late, around midnight so I'm guessing their hours are quite flexible. The front door is open 24/7 and the hostel provides some maps and other tourist pamphlets/brochures for yours to take. They also have signs advertising free tours and name-your-price tours. Check out was at 10am, and we were allowed to leave our backpacks in the hostel for the day while we went sight-seeing. We came back to the hostel at 10pm and collected our backpacks from the storage room without any trouble.

Overall, a good stay and I would definitely recommend Equity Point.

This hostel has one simple thing going for it..location location location. One of the staff told me they are trying to move towards becoming a hotel. Therefor is not completely a hotel or a hostel. We had a 3 bed private room with ensuite. The room was large with a large bathroom. Perfect for us. We did see our friends dorm that was very very small. The bar was expensive and the staff were not very knowledgable when it came to asking about the pub crawl. No hostels in New York have much atmosphere, and this was no exception. Yes it was clean, good locaiton, and free wifi and breakfast, so it has everything thats needed.

We only stayed for a single night but the first thing that strikes you is the location. The hostel is as good as on Times Square. You really are right in the middle of all the action. The staff were also very friendly and helpful on check in.

We had a private 3 bed doom with ensuite bathroom. It was basic but nothing you wouldn't expect from any other hostel around the world. All bedding and towels were provided too. The free wifi was fast and reliable and they have a great little bar downstairs with a band and local beers.

The overall value for money, especially when you take into account its location, is very good and i'm pretty confident it would be harder to find better for anywhere near the price.
