We just got back from 4 nights at the Westin Times Square. We LOVED this hotel. From the minute we got out of the cab we had wonderful customer service. However, I did have a little problem booking the hotel. I work for the government and I was trying to book a government rate. They had the government rate available but I could not book it for 4 consecutive nights. I was told the only way to do this was to book 3 separate reservations. I have no idea why, but I had to make 3 separate reservations and the hotel linked them all together and guaranteed me I would not have to change rooms. The only problem this caused was 3 times our room key stopped working because the computer showed the reservation had expired so we had to go downstairs and get a new key. This was a minor technicality and was totally forgotten because of the great service and wonderful hotel.
The rate I got was for a traditional room, so upon check-in I asked if there were any upgrades available and they gave us a deluxe corner room on the 26th floor at no extra charge. The rooms were very nicely appointed and was larger than we expected in NYC. We booked a king room and asked for a rollaway bed for our daughter. I was expecting the rollaway to be your basic uncomfortable “cot type” of bed, but to our surprise they brought in a regular “Heavenly” twin size bed that was on a platform with wheels on it. My daughter loved the bed as it was the same quality as the king size bed that we had (which was wonderful). We rearranged the furniture a little and the bed fit in perfect.
Besides the snowstorm that started the night we got there, we had a fantastic trip. We saw 3 shows, Jersey Boys (Fantastic), Chorus Line (Pretty good) and Hairspray (really great). We ate at the Carnegie Deli, and the food was really good. We also ate at Becco on 46th Street between 8th and 9th Ave, which I highly recommend and we also went to Little Italy , China Town and the Village. What ever you do DON’T go to T.G. I. Friday’s on Times Square. The prices were OUTRAGOUS! We went in for a quick bite and to get out of the cold. My daughter ordered Chicken Fingers that were $16.99. A Hamburger was also $17.00. This was the only “Rip Off” we encountered. Every other restaurant we went to, although a little pricey, was well worth it. The weather was really cold but the magic of NYC made up for it all.
