“May 6th - Location, Location, Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2006

If you want to stay in the heart of everything - this is the place. Went to NYC last weekend. The beds were clean, and "heavenly". Room was Clean, shower was clean, towels were plentiful, and linens are changed during your stay if you place the green card on you bed.

The best part of this hotel was that it was right in the middle of everything, and very convenient to the Subway - yes people - take the subway - cabs are too expensive, traffic is too horrible, and the subway is no worse than Chicago subway's, they are clean and safe.

The concierge even came thru with much sought after BABBO reservations. Concierage service also printed out Flight boarding passes. There was never a time we were told "no". Room rate was around $345 with AAA discount - fair for NY prices.

Don't expect the Waldorf Astoria or the Plaza here - This hotel is modern, and serves it's purpose. Let's face it - you are not in the room enough for little things to really matter. NYC is about Broadway, Times Square, China Town, Little Italy, and all of the wonderful eclectic restuarants, and places you can find.

Word of advice - avoid Tavern on the Green - worst meal ever, and the whole place smells like Horse Poop - (from the horse drawn carriages).

By all means, make New York your own, and HAVE FUN.

We stayed at the Westin New York Times Square May 4-7, 2006. We arrived early on Thursday the 4th, and were not even given the option of an early check-in. The bellman immediately took our bags and when we said we'd like to see if our room was available he pretty much said no way and we left it at that. We came back right at 3:00 and our room was ready. We were on the 37th floor with a view facing north. We could see the Hudson if we leaned and looked to the left. At the time we made our reservation (in January) we booked a rate of $382/night for a king room and made a request for a corner room. I later found out that now they are charging more for the corner rooms (which is probably worth it for the view) and with an internet rate we could have gotten a corner room for less than our regular room rate. So hold out for the internet rates if possible. I would have much preferred a view facing the Empire State Building, but we were fine. Our room was nice and clean, the heavenly bed was nice although we have the same mattress at home so it wasn't a big change. The double headed shower helped to "wake us up" each morning. The bathroom toiletries weren't great- we actually had trouble getting the shampoo to lather any at all, and they did not offer any kind of facial soap. The soap was not replenished by housekeeping but the shampoo and conditioner were. We did not have any problems with the noise from the elevators, you could barely hear them at all. My only complaints: (1) there was a bit of a moisture problem in the bathroom... the drywall on the ceiling was starting to flake off after one too many steamy showers in the heavenly shower. (2) the main entrance off of 43rd street is a little scary at night. The street is dark and the area seems skechy. Go down one more block and enter at the 42nd street "back entrance" - this is a more populated area. Overall, we liked the Westin but will probably try something different next time.

This was supposed to be a celebration trip but this hotel nearly ruined our vacation. The biggest issue was that we were unable to get towels and washclothes, despite repeated requests to housekeeping, the front desk and management, for THREE DAYS. Our sheets were never changed, we received no turn down service and the room was dirty. We courteously voiced our concerns yet never received a response from the hotel or from corporate. We have always had great experiences with Westin in the past so this was a real shocker.

My new husband and I came to New York for our honeymoon at the end of April and it was excellent, we couldn't have asked for anything better.

As soon as we got there our cases were taken off us and delivered to our room within 5 minutes of check in (although it felt like more as it was our first time in NYC and we wanted to get out there and explore).

Check in was painless and when we said we were on our honeymoon and wanted a high floor we got one on the 38th and the view was amazing, we could see the Empire State Building.

The rooms were cleaned every day, towels changed, beds made and/or changed as requested etc. etc. we were left new supplies of tea/coffee toiletries every day.

The beds were heavenly and the shower was great too.

There was a big TV in the room which had many English channels on it and I got hooked on an American soap which is not on in England (that I know of) which is a shame.

A bulb blew in the bathroom and we asked reception for it to be changed in the morning before we went out and when we came back it had been fixed.

As our flight wasn’t until 6pm we asked to keep the room for a little bit longer and they said it was not a problem and let us keep it for a while.

My husband also wanted a package delivered to the hotel and before we left we emailed them to ask if we could do this and the email responses were fast and reliable. So the day we arrived and all we had to do was ask at the business centre for it and they found it and said they would deliver it to the room.

The lifts were great but went that fast that my ears popped!!

I would definitely stay in this hotel again but as New York is such a big place and there are areas that we never got to see we might consider staying else where. But if we return to Times Square this is the place we will be.

I've stayed in Manhatten a few times and have had terrible experiences with "deals," so I decided to just fork over the money and pray it paid off. With taxes, I spent 400/night on a room with a high floor and 2 double beds. It had the heavenly beds and heavenly shower and the entire hotel is non-smoking. We didn't have to worry about checking in early or out late because we timed our flights appropriately, so I don't have an opinion on how that would work. The location was a definite benefit. It is located at 43rd and 8th, a block from Broadway and Times Square. Across the street is a starbucks, ben & jerrys and pizza shop popular in NYC. One block down to Broadway is the Europa Cafe, a great place for breakfast. Of course on Broadway and also 9th ave, there are hundreds of good places for dinner. Madame Tussads is just around the corner, as are many broadway theatres. So, when spending 400/night, you usually get some luxury, but not here. It was very safe and extremely quiet. We had a room facing east and therefore had a view of the New York Times and Empire State Building. The rooms were clean except had stains all over the carpet. I wonder if this is because it is a pet-friendly hotel. The bathrooms were fine and updated, but again, no luxury. We didn't get a free morning paper on Saturday or Sunday, only Monday. There wasn't a turn-down service or chocolate on your pillow. The hotel soaps were not replaced after we used them. The heavenly beds were comfortable though, and clean as usual. The in room coffee and tea choices were very bare. I would probably not stay here again, as there are so many hotels to choose from in midtown that you could spend 400 a night on. I think I'll try another with descent reviews and compare. The location though, is fantastic. If you were to stay with a family of 4, this may be a good option because very few hotels in the city offer 2 double beds. Enjoy NYC.... a great place for a first time visitor or returner!

I recently stayed at the W in time square with my buddies in the presidential suite, 57th floor and was flabbergasted when we walked in the room, maybe it was the flat screens in every room including the bathroom, maybe the view of central park and time square and anything else that you are able to see for miles, but i think it was everything in itself that was amazing. As soon as we got in the elevator to check in we were greeted with cool music with subwoofer like speakers above us that kept us company to the 7th floor where people were partying and living it up high class style. Now its not everyday a 20 year old can get a $3000 a night room but if your ever wondering what to waste money on this is def. the place. And even the toilet was awesome, it automatically lifted up for my peeing pleasure. just make sure you dont open anything cause it could cost you in the $6 range at least. And if your hungry and order Domino's, don't worry because they have personal security that escorts the delivery guy to your room! But over all i think this was...no i know this was the best time in New York i ever had and no price can pay for that...thats why im going back this weekend may 4th and 5th to do it again.

I'm a picky traveler and the Westin Times Square topped my charts, surprisingly: would never have picked it if my meetings weren't there. Specifics:
Location - 43rd at 8th - middle of everything - walk, cab, bus, subway to anywhere - surrounded by every type of restaurant;
Room - big, new, deluxe finishes (slate bathroom eg), and Amazing view of Hudson river, and windows that open!
Comfort - "heavenly" super luxe beddings and towels, every amenity I can think of (coffee, iron, TV, internet...)
Service - everyone I interfaced with (desk, bell, service) was proactively trying to please.
Price - our convention rate was $309 which is good for a top quality hotel in NY.
They have a full spa and fitness center which sadly I had no time to check.
