“Good hotel.. great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

The hotel was well-kept and clean. Very nice decor and the staff was very friendly. The only complaint I had was the hotel smelled a little musty and the counter in the bathroom was way too small. You could barely put anything on it and it would keep falling off. Otherwise, it was a good choice and within walking distance to major attractions and neighborhoods.

There were pluses and minuses staying here. I've had better experiences with other Westins around the world so I would say this one was just o.k. It definitely seems like their standards aren't so high at this location. But it is Times Square and honestly it was one of the more affordable hotels in Manhattan. So on that note alone, it deserves a higher score even with the few negatives detailed below.

The positives - Great location for people who have never been to NYC. (A bit much for those of us who have spent a lot of time in the city though. Ha!) Friendly staff. Good restaurants and bars onsite.

The negatives - I had booked 2 rooms over 4 months in advance and yet they were not even in the same building as each other upon check-in. That was an inconvenience but not the end of the world. Me and my husband got a room that was pretty out of date and run down while my mother-in-law and aunt got a room that was more recently remodeled. One major challenge I had was when we started charging things to the room. I had put down a sizable deposit at check-in and have no problem with them taking more money off my card to cover the expenses while we accrued them. However, they ended up putting a hold of over $3000 more than we had spent which I didn't find out about until my card was rejected at a bar. I did have them remove the hold which they admitted was excessive and accidental. But it took me 2 visits to the front desk, over an hour of going over it with them, a call to the credit card company, and a conversation with the manager. My advice is to just pay as you go because they hold way more funds than you're actually spending. I would have done that since it was all going on the same card anyway. Yeesh!

Room Tip: Pay as you go in the restaurants and bars as opposed to charging it to your room. They keep putting...

I am a Starwood Preferred member. I enjoy staying at Westin Properties. Was just in DC immediately prior to NYC and there was no room at the DC Westins due to a world Microsoft convention. I came to NYC for vacation with my eight year old daughter.
Happily there was room here at the NYC-TSq hotel. Your facility lived up to and exceeded expectations. It was a nice and tranquil refuge from the hustle and bustle outside.
I can tell you Jaden at the Concierge desk took exquisite care of all of our entertainment and excursion diversions and needs (Matilda tickets; Lion King; Statute of Liberty; Empire State Building; subway instructions; restaurant recommendations; etc. He is a phenomenal, knowledgeable, and a very personable individual who does a great job and is a wonderful representative of your hotel. He was stellar--but everyone else was helpful and courteous. Tony at the Concierge desk was also helpful, friendly and very entertaining.
Thanks for a pleasurable and memorable stay. It was awesome. We will be back.

If you want to be in the Time Square area, this is a good choice. Very big hotel. Close to everything. Rooms are average to nice. Hotel bar and dining are average to poor.
Hotel has a 2nd floor lobby with a long escalator. I find this annoying.

We stayed for 7 nights over 2nd week of July. Upon check-in ask for a corner room and for an extra $50 per night we get wifi, extra bed, fridge and an awesome extremely large room enough for 3 people and 8 big suitcases!

The room was clean, modern minimalist decor and wonderfully scented. The view from all the three windows were amazing as they directly look upon Times Square. The only bad thing was the noise from below. Our room was in the 10th floor and the noise was really loud. Should have asked for a higher corner room.

Location is perfect. This hotel is not cheap though as everything would cost money. If you don't get the upgrade then everything would cost you money. There's only a weight sensored minibar in the room which you can't use to stock your belongings. Borrowing a fridge will cost $20 per night. No free wife. No free internet and print-out in the business center. Borrowing utensils also cost you some money.

All in all it was a great stay coming from Hilton's chains.

Room Tip: Get the upgrade and ask for a corner room

Excellent customer service at check-in! They gave a room although I was early for check-in which is pretty unusual for NYC. Hotel is in a great location. The rooms are larger for NYC standards. Highly recommend.
