“AWESOME location...very clean! 2nd visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for three nights this last weekend, and it was our 2nd visit. We love this place! The staff is always friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet and clean. The rooms are definitely tiny, but we aren't in NYC to hang out in a hotel room! The beds are comfy and so are the pillows (I'm picky about this...). We were on the 4th floor last time and the 6th floor this time...on both visits it was quiet (or as quiet as you expect it to be in NYC). We love the location...easy to jump on the subway, walk to Little Italy or Chinatown...Chelsea isn't far. We prefer the feel in this part of town! It was raining on Sunday night and we wanted to get out, so we caught a movie at the theater two doors up the street...great little movie theater that shows Indie films. There's also some great little bars with a low-key feel in them. We will be back for a third visit!

Room Tip: On our first trip, our room overlooked the park across the street. There was some late night basket...

We stayed here, and the staff really took care of me. If I wanted food they recommended some great places near the hotel all walking distance. We went shopping everyday and the shops in SoHo were 10 minute walk away. We met up with friends from Jersey, and the staff recommended restaurant that were an easy walk away. The staff Anthony, Kesha, and Tasha were great! I would recommend this hotel for the staff alone.

The rooms are small, but neat they could use some better art work. The lobby was small and could use some updating.

Room Tip: A room with microwave and fridge they are bigger.

The hotel went out of their way with assistance for one of the guests with special needs.
Overall very clean, extremely friendly and informative. Already referring the GEM Hotel SoHo. Good location, Whole Foods one block away. Rooms had mini refrigerators and microwaves.
Subway entrance a block away. Some construction on Houston during our stay, but the room was quiet. Air conditioning functional and quiet.

Our party of 6 was in NYC for a wedding. The hotel is in a great location on the the lower east side, close to Little Italy, Chinatown and the Bowery area. We could walk to wonderful restaurants or take a quick cab ride to any sightseeing. The staff was wonderful, especially Anthony and the 2 beautiful young ladies at the front desk (sorry I forgot their names). The hotel could use some updating, but it was clean, good bedding, and great water pressure in the shower. Would difinitely recommend this place. Thanks, guys for the wonderful stay!

Dear Sharon S,

Thank you for the lovely review. It was more than a pleasure having the wedding party stay with us. Our front desk staff work hard to make all of our guests feel at home. I will definitely share your review with them. We welcome you back to stay with us upon your return from the Windy City to New York City.

hotel is well maintained and house keeping is very good. f anything is amiss, staff makes every effort to correct. Anthony at the front desk is very helpful. very nice. Love the location. Tons of food and entertainment close by and subway entrances. Best fast food is Smac in the park across Houston!

Dear deb k,

Thank you for your lovely review! Our staff works hard to make sure every guest has a memorable experience. I am happy to hear that our housekeeping staff is well maintained. The cleanliness of our rooms is something we take seriously. Also, I absolutely agree with you that Smac is the best fast food around. Those macaronis are to die for!

We warmly welcome you back on your next visit.

We stayed in this hotel because it was close to our daughter's apartment and it had a pretty good rating and the price was good. We were pleased with our choice. The rooms are not big, but we just needed a place to sleep that was in this neighborhood. There are plenty of attractions nearby and a subway stop on the F line is right across the street (2nd Ave stop). The room was very clean and well appointed... comfortable bed, small fridge, microwave, and even a free bottled water! The bathroom had granite counter tops and shower walls... very pretty. There was even a soap and shampoo dispenser mounted on the shower wall... and a nice white bathrobe! The front desk people were all very friendly and professional... Helped us arrange for a car to the airport. There is a Whole Foods store just down the street, so it's convenient if you want to go grab breakfast or lunch. It rained the day we left so we hung out at Whole Foods (comfortable chairs, clean bathrooms and good food) while we were waiting for our car to the airport. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a queen size room and it was on a higher floor. The higher floors will get less noise f...

It's hard to answer a question about value when talking about any NYC hotel because it's all relative... anywhere is going to likely be more costly than what you're used to paying. Where the purveyors of Soho Gem are smart is by pouring on the fantastic service and lovely charm. And isn't that the secret to success?

We stayed here for 5 glorious nights and loved every minute of it. Usually our hotel is just the place we sleep, but I was 6 months pregnant and needed bouts of rest and relaxation in between the bursts of energy. So, having Whole Foods across the street and a fridge in the room was GREAT.

The first night, we were in a room I will generously describe as "bijou" (the smallest jewel at the Gem, I'm sure). Didn't so much mind the size, but it was hot out and the A/C would only stay on for 20 min at a time so I did not sleep. I brought it to the attention of the sweetheart at the front desk (and told him about my "condition" and he called in the hotel manager who upgraded us to a HUGE room, which was glorious.

The desk staff is extremely kind, friendly and helpful.

The neighborhood is our perfect vision of NYC. Little Italy and Chinatown are both just steps away. Sugar (one block away) has the best, freshest food for all 3 meals, plus fantastic baking and lattes. Two Boots pizza was a great deal, a few blocks away. The burger place next door is delicious. And we grabbed a Knish from next door for breakfast a few times.

For us the Lower East Side felt like quintessential old NY. Tenament Museum, Feast of San Genarro, Katz Deli - it was all fantastic!

Then, to drag you back into this decade, Broadway is only 5 blocks away where you can shoe shop until 11:00pm!

The rest of the City is all easily within reach as the 2nd Ave. subway station is right across the street.

One of the best trips of my life and the Soho Gem was a big part of it!
