I don't know what everyone is really complaining about. I had never been to NYC before this trip but I knew what to except in terms of size. Not just for hotels but also for living in that city..you get a small amount of space for a high price which you have to be willing to pay.
We chose this hotel because from a map we saw it was close to Central Park which seemed like a good location. This area is more of a locals area. Lots of nannies with babies and people with their dogs in stores/restaurants. There were numerous restaurants to choose from just a 3 minute walk from the hotel! The thing about the Upper West Side is that you are going to find great prices at local restaurants(non chained) with great quality food! Check out Isabelle's which is super close to the hotel..best quality food I've had in a while!
Everything is walking distance from this hotel..mind you we love to walk so it didn't seem like a big deal to us. Even taking a taxi wasn't expensive. There is the Seinfeld comedy club that we went to for only $10 which was about 3 blocks from the hotel. We got our tickets from a guy selling them in Times Square..that night was one of our highlights! The Hudson River is a super close walk to the hotel as well..we had a beer at this hidden place through the park. If you get a chance take the subway to the Flat Iron District..it's extremely beautiful..Old beautiful buildings..local area and great shopping!
To be honest..if you are in NYC to actually experience the city then you don't need a super fancy hotel. We enjoyed ours..even tho it was small it was perfect for what we needed..to sleep and get ready. The staff at the hotel were SUPER helpful and nice at all times. Even held the door open for us as we enter the hotel. One night we were super hungry at 3am(we just got in from a night in the Meatpacking District) and the staff very kindly ordered us some pizza which was very delicious!
All in all this neighbourhood is quiet in comparison to the rest of NYC which is a good break after a day of sightseeing!! We spent 7 nights at this hotel and were super sad to leave! Most of NYC is about the architecture..and this building definitely fits the profile of NYC!
We had THE BEST nyc experience!
