“A New York Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

As a frequent visitor to New York over the past forty years I have stayed in many Manhatten hotels. Few have pushed all the right buttons the way the Out does. My one caution is, unless you want to party all night long, make sure you ask for a room that is far enough away from the disco to escape the noise. Those rooms do exist and they are beautifully quiet...a rarity for NYC.,

Room Tip: Ask to be far enough away from the disco to miss the noise.

My friends and I chose the Out NYC because our hotel from the previous year's visit had closed. I was hoping that in additional to being one of the most affordable in the Theater District that it would be a good place to stay. The Out exceeded all of our expectations and made our friends envious that we had found it and they had not.

The Out has so many benefits, amenities, and capabilities that I wish our stay hadn't been so brief or so booked. The Spa, Workout Room and Nightclub looked great - just didn't have time. The rooms were well appointed and roomy. We asked for and received quieter rooms.

The hotel staff members were all friendly, helpful and professional. The rotating artwork makes the space even cooler, funkier, more fun ... I would definitely go back and I think our friends (who stayed elsewhere) will choose this place in the future.

I hope enough people find it and choose it to keep it going but not so many that I can't get in when I visit NYC. People may say it's on the west side but we found it so well located to our theater and other bars, restaurants and venues that I didn't even get the typical walking work out that NYC typically requires.

Room Tip: If you're sensitive or an early to bed type ask for a quiet room.

Straight friendly :) with in easy reach of all essential sights of NYC. If you like a clean, modern hotel, the OUT is the chic and fengshu style, make sure you have you swimsuit and training clothing with you, the spa and gym is free for all guests. I am over 50 and straight. The personnel are very professional, helpful and respectful....
Open your mind....

Room Tip: Take a room with a view into the street

There was a night club DIRECTLY below me and 42nd Street was right outside my window, amazingly I couldn't hear either. This hotel is obviously rescued from a much older property and has a chic motel feel to it (don't be turned off by the word "motel", it's very high end). Our room was modern, nicely updated and perfectly clean. The spa and gym were very nice and I loved the dramatic hot tub/cabana area. We were there in winter, but I bet this hotel, with several outdoor areas, would be even more fantastic during warmer weather. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. There was a huge art project being built/installed in the lobby while we were there, which was a bit messy but it added to the lively ambiance I think they are shooting for. The restaurant was good (though maybe a bit pricey). The location was excellent with an easy walk to all the Times Square subway lines. I'd go back for sure.

Room Tip: If you are noise sensitive, you might want to choose a room that faces into the courtyard, but the s...

My partner booked this hotel for us to stay at while celebrating my 30th birthday in NYC. We checked in with absolutely no problems and everything was ready and waiting for us.

The room was lovely, much larger than I expected and with a huge bed that was very comfortable. It was spotlessly clean and well presented. I would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room but there is a fully stocked minibar and room service.

All the communal areas are presented brilliantly and the gym and spa facilities are fantastic, if you manage to find time in your stay to use them, New York has so much to offer that we didn't.

On my birthday there was a cake, a bottle of bubbly in an ice bucket and balloons in the room with a card from the staff when we arrived back after a day of sightseeing, which was a really lovely touch (and it was all compliments of the hotel).

The only negative to this hotel is that the club does get very loud and operates until 4am or later so if you are a light sleeper this may affect you, however if you go down to the lovely bar or to the club itself and have some drinks then you shouldn't have a problem getting to sleep.

We really enjoyed our stay, nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were friendly and there to cater to our every need. I need to give a special shout out to Bronson who arranged for my birthday treats with my partner prior to our arrival and was like our own personal travel guide.

We would absolutely recommend this hotel to travellers and particularly young couples and solo travellers who are both gay and straight.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from XL and on a higher floor.

The Out Hotel is AMAZING! Perfect for groups or a family.

Although this hotel is famously GLBT focused (just look at its name!), it is also straight friendly. The staff is overly accommodating, courteous and helpful. They know their job and do it efficiently and well while smiling through your stay.

The location is perfectly located just blocks from Times Square in Hell’s Kitchen. Easily walk to the subway or nearby bus terminal. Newark, JFK and other airports/destinations are easily accessed via motor coach shuttles that stop at the nearby 42nd Street Port Authority Bus Terminal. The shuttles typically range at $16 one way to the major airports. Much easier than the trains for making your hotel connection. There are conveniences such as a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks, 7-Eleven, and 24 hour Subway Sandwich all very close.

Booking your room might be a bit of an art as some of the rooms do not follow the traditional hotel footprint. Depending on which room you book you may be sharing an common area with a stranger. We were a group of three friends and booked the quad room. The quad room is set up with four beds. They are lofted style, but nothing like the common bunk bed. The beds are comfy and full sized. Each bed area has a curtain that you can pull shut for your own sleeping privacy. Inside each bed area there is a tv with a headset hookup so all four bed areas have their own sanctuary for reading, tv, etc. We negotiated blocking off the fourth bed (since there were only three of us) to allow ourselves the added luxury of having the entire room to ourselves. The toilet and shower have their own areas for privacy with closing doors. There are lockers located inside the common area of the room for each guest which are lockable via a keypad.

The quad room worked perfect for the three of us allowing maximum privacy and rest! We loved it! It occurred to me that the room would work perfectly for a family as the room is so dividable but cohesive all at the same time.

The grounds have many amenities from a 24 hour gym to a study, to a business center, etc. There is a popular gay friendly nightclub in located on the grounds. You can ask the front desk for a discounted cover voucher. Don’t worry, the rooms are soundproofed enough where you will not be bothered by the fun noisy neighbor!

In short, this is the perfect hotel for a group of friends, family or adventurous loan traveler. I highly recommend the hotel and plan to book again soon!

LOVE THE OUT HOTEL!!!!

Room Tip: The quad room (105) is perfect for a group of friends or a family!!!

I have stayed in a number of hotels in New York before but The Out is the best that i have stayed in so far in terms of value and facilities. Also as the hotel is not too big it means that staff can give that personal feel to helping you with enquiries. The location is really close to bars and restuarants and the XL club downstairs is handy for a great night out.
