When we arrived we got a very nice welcome by Tressi. She runs the B&B together with her husband Dwight. During our stay she took care of the breakfast, gave us some background info about NY, recommended restaurants and answered all our questions. She definitely wants you to have a good stay and she succeeds in that!
The B&B Heart of Harlem is a typical house in the style of the neighborhood of Harlem. In the front you have some stairs and there is a basement apartment. The house was built in the end of the 19th century. The B&B has 4 big rooms in this moment, but the 5th is almost ready.
Our room was spacious and clean. Many things like floors, doors, ceiling are still original, and also many of the decorations were old and all this gives the place a very authentic and nice atmosphere.
The beds were comfortable, the room had satellite tv, there was a small fridge and there was a desk for your laptop. Wifi was available. The room has many lights. In short everything you need to make you comfortable is there!
The bathroom was big, has a good functioning sink and the shower was good. Small detail, the shower head is a little bit low. Probably as it is the shower of the bathtub. We did not make use us the bathtub. The bathtub also has hydro jets for hydro massage. The bathroom includes a hairdryer.
Towels were changed several times during our stay and also the bed cloth were changed during our 6 days stay.
The Heart of Harlem is 4 small blocks away from the Subway entrance. The subway ticket is 29 dollar for a week and in 10 minutes you are on Times Square or 5th Avenue etc.
Central Park is about a 10 minutes walk.
Harlem nowadays is a safe neighborhood with it’s own exotic atmosphere. Harlem definitely has some nice bars and restaurants to check out. We mention Café Latte, Lennox Lounge, Red Rooster, Cotton Club.
We had a fabulous holiday in NY and an excellent and comfortable and stay in the Heart of Harlem and we would definitely come back if we visit NY again.
Note: Heart of Harlem is a little difficult to find on the web, and in this moment does not have it’s own website. We found it on budgetplaces.
