“A real gem of a hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

I stayed here in late May for 3 nights in a junior suite which, by NYC standards was spacious - and the hotel, though small in overall size, again by New York standards, means it also has much more intimacy, which is charming. From the get go, the hotel staff know your name and go out of their way to help you as much as possible - nothing is too much. They have a wonderful rooftop bar (watch out, the frozen lemonades are delicious and deadly! :) ), wonderful breakfast, complimentary WIFI throughout, and, a real treat is their 'cheese and wine' from 2-8pm every day! It's an abundance of good stuff and everybody participates to the full. Why not - your in vacation, right? Overall, the hotel is, of course, very clean, the rooms are a great standard and the location is spot in for most people visiting manhattan! being so centrally located! just 2 mins from Bryant Park / The Empire State Building / Grand central station... This hotel is a really good choice for any visitor coming to NYC, you definitely benefit from the 'boutique' feeling of this hotel, over the big chains...

Great location, superb staff who couldn't do enough to help, great welcome. Room was a junior suite on 7th floor, plenty of space and great view out of the window down Madison Ave loved all the books in the room, but wanted to go and see in some of the others with different themes. The breakfast buffet was just enough, we did have breakfast out when we wanted something more substantial and the wine & cheese in the early evening was a great idea, just enough to revive us between sightseeing, shopping and going out for a late meal. We shall be back as soon as time Nd budgets allow

Library Hotel is a very short walk from Grand Central Terminal and an easy walk to theaters. Each member of staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was small but immaculate, with crisp white linens, storage, and an equally immaculate and functional bathroom. Room reminded us of a European hotel in terms of space and efficiency. We loved the library theme. Continental breakfast was fine. We were only there for one night, but staff were excellent. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

Room Tip: I doubt you can go wrong when choosing a room. Though it is in a busy neighborhood, it was totally...

Stayed in this gorgeous boutique hotel for one week. Room was immaculate and large. Contemporary and elegant. Great location. Staff were wonderful. Lovely breakfast room staff there were wonderful too. Can go to breakfast room any time of the day for coffee, tea and snacks, no extra charge. Can't wait to go back. Loved the books.

The concept of Library Hotel has been described previously, so I won't rehearse it here, but it works, it's innovative and fills the hotel with a unique sense of refinement. The bookcases are obviously everywhere and produce an atmospheric air of sophistication and warmth. The staff are even known as "Librarians". There is an unassuming entrance that can be easily missed, which leads into a small, equally unassuming reception area. Classic with a hint of the boutique hotel. The staff are the greatest asset of the Library and you're continuously greeted by Librarians who appear genuinely pleased to work there, and are rightly proud of the product that they have. The lovely ladies that staff the breakfast bar are an absolute delight and nothing is too much trouble for them, they're worth their weight in gold. The all day snacks/drinks on the second floor "Reading Room", where breakfast is served, is a very welcome bonus and continuously stocked and kept immaculately clean. The twilight cheese and wine event is not to be missed, and sets you up well for the evening, especially if you're heading out to a Broadway show.
The rooms are bijou and compact, bordering on tiny, but they're comfortable and perfectly adequate. The beds are extremely small by usual USA standards, but comfortable mattresses make up for the diminutive size. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, which for a tea monster English person was an unwelcome surprise. The staff did however provide a coffee maker which heated hot water for tea, which helped considerably. The weather was very warm during our stay and although the in room mini-bar would not allow additional items to be added without you being charged (?!) we were provided with a desktop additional small fridge for our use. The room was bursting with the additional items (coffee maker & fridge) which made it somewhat claustrophobic, but you can't have everything.
I'm knit picking here though, the staff had a "can do" attitude and were very pleasant and helpful.

The rooftop (13th floor but called the 14th - for obvious reasons) Bookmarks Lounge open air and covered cocktail bar was ideally situated and very popular from the early evening onwards. It does however appear to be used, in the main by non-residents, and the opportunities for residents to find a seat were very limited. The staff projected an air of supercilious superiority more suited to a red-carpet-your-names-not-down-you're-not-coming-in venue, than the rooftop bar of a midtown hotel. One or two of the young ladies serving drinks rushed around like headless chickens, and although the place was quite full it transmitted a sense of fluster and panic rather than the relaxed alfresco atmosphere one would have hoped for. (Slow down, nobody appreciates feeling that you're rushed off your feet and you've got no time for them.)

On a positive note, concierge/welcoming staff were professional, courteous and extremely helpful, as were the vast majority of the staff, and despite any perceived criticisms we would totally recommend Library Hotel to others.

Dislikes, very few, however ...Small rooms and beds....Rooftop cocktail terrace commandeered by non residents/haughty staff

Likes, lots..
Fantastic location, 2 minutes from Grand Central, the subway, and on Madison Avenue.
Fabulous staff.
Delightful, clean, uniquely themed.
IT suite to print off your return boarding passes etc..
Free fast WiFI
Delicious Continental style breakfast included

It's a marvellous hotel for the discerning traveller, the staff are amazing, and totally made our stay so much more enjoyable. You won't find better for the same money in Manhattan!

P.S. The yellow cab $60 ish fixed rate from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan is a brilliant idea, just get the cab at the official cab rank at JFK, the staff are super efficient! We had a "Town car" back to JFK, booked at the hotel desk. It was air conditioned, (yellow cabs tended not to be) refined comfort, there on time and we arrived at the airport cool and relaxed. It was $96 all in, and worth the additional cost for the comfort and luxury alone. Worth considering.

Room Tip: We had a roadside 12th floor (Religions) room and the road noise wasn't at all intrusive, and we...

Our 3rd stay at the library, in a queen bed on the 12th floor. No noise issues, room was large enough by New York standards and the service was impeccable. If you need concierge services, especially for restaurant recommendations, just ask for Bill, (who impressively remembered us from our previous stay at the hotel) and looked after us.

The wii-fi coverage could do with a boost in the room we were in, but this was a minor inconvenience.

The staff aka 'Librarians' were fantastic, including those cleaning the rooms, serving breakfast and the wine and snacks in the afternoon, as well as the reception and door staff were without fault.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Library Hotel New York and it was amazing. The hotel is amazing. From the minute we checked in they made us feel special. Nothing was too much trouble, anything we asked for they got it for us and always with a smile. We stayed in the queen size room and it was bigger than your average uk hotel room and was well laid out and very comfortable a pleasure to return to each day with tired feet. Each night the hotel has a cheese and wine for the residents and this was fantastic. No limit on how much wine or bubbles as well as cheese and nibbles and was a fantastic way to round of your day of sightseeing. The location is amazing just round the corner from Central station and a 10 minute walk from Times Square. I could go on and on about this hotel!!! If you are looking for a central hotel that is different than your usual chains then this is the place. Location, amenities and to the staff a wonderful place to stay and I am very sad that our time came to an end and will return to stay on my next visit!!!!!
