“Beautiful boutique hotel well located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Library Hotel for two nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, the decor is elegant and the furnishings comfortable and clean. Our room had a small balcony overlooking Madison Avenue, affording a view up and down the its entire length, as well as a glimpse of the gorgeous facade of the NY Public Library one block up 41st Street. Books are everywhere and the rooms are all themed according to subjects (ours was "love").The rooftop bar and lounge area is equally beautiful with a glassed in terrace, an open deck with heaters, and a room with a fireplace. The modest continental breakfast was served in a small corner room with lots of windows and a grand piano. The room was crowded at times but seemed to turn over relatively quickly. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The "love" room with balcony was a wonderful splurge for a special occasion.

We spent 8 nights at the hotel, the room was well designed and large enough for our stay. Good cleaning, simple but good breakfast. Nice staff.
Wine, cheese, vegetables o crackers in the evening. Coffee / tea and delicious pastries / fruits always on display in the dining room / library. Madison Vine restaurant on the ground floor is also very good and at reasonable prices. There is a nice outdoor terrace on the roof.

My wife and I stayed here for seven nights whilst on holiday and we found everything about the hotel was exceptional. The friendliness and efficiency of the staff, cleanliness and the general ambience of the hotel was superb. The rooms are a bit small but for a boutique hotel in central NYC that is not unusual. We felt very comfortable the whole time we were there.
The quality of the continental buffet breakfast was great as was the availability of tea / coffee / pastries at any time.
I don't want to go on about the free wine and cheese at 5pm every evening just in case this place gets so popular I can't afford to go there when I next visit NYC!

Stay here for one night on business. It was my first time and had read and heard good things about The Library Hotel - location great (Madison & 41st -- Mid Midtown), people engaging and professional, thematic decor, good rest. (Madison & Vine), nice rooftop bar. Well it is all true. If you like small boutique hotels with a tasteful flair then this is a place worth trying. It's location is very good, convenient to Grand Central station, good shopping, restaurants, and Times Square.

I was worried that for the relatively high price that the rooms were too small but I was upgraded to a larger room without asking and it was quite sizable and a corner room overlooking Madison Avenue at 41st. It had good amenities except the WiFI was hard for me to connect my PC to, but my iPad was no problem. So if you can get room 406 I think you will be pleased. The interior rooms might worry me but I haven't seen them yet. Each floor seems to have a theme to it, for example, mine was "language" and, hence, the books in your room relate to that theme. Fun but not terribly useful.

The staff was welcoming, professional and engaging in the lobby, rest. and rooftop. Good job team!

So, as long as you are not looking for a grand social footprint give the hotel a try. It is unique.

Room Tip: Get a corner room.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks whilst visiting NYC on a holiday. The location of the hotel is fantastic. Walking distance to most attractions.

The hotel is very nice. As we were staying for 2 weeks we decided to pay the extra for the bigger room which we are glad we did. The room was clean and provided all the amenities required however nothing special.

Generally the service was good, however we felt that the concierge dedication to service was lacking.. We had a couple of messages from restaurants make it to is. We asked them to contact a restaurant ad we felt think it was too much if an effort for them. There was no offer to flag down taxis, however they offered and did so for other guests.

The cheese and wine every night is nice and breakfast had all the basic condiments required.

We would consider staying somewhere else next time we visit NYC.

Because of your comments we are implementing a plan for managers to place a follow up courtesy call to all of our long stay guests so that we can sincerely ask if they are comfortable and if there is anything we can do to ensure they are getting all the help they need . We have also reviewed your comments with our team and they assure me they are committed to redouble their efforts to be alert to guests in need and extend themselves at every opportunity.

If there is anything else you feel could have made your stay exactly what you wished I genuinely would love to hear from you so that we can continue to improve our staff and services. Also, we would love to welcome you back at our location or at one of our sister properties on your next visit to New York. The accommodations were really more of a "3" star but I bumped it up because of the lovely perks here. Our room was on the fourth floor, still close enough to the street to hear all the traffic. Earplugs and other sleep essentials are offered free of charge. The pillows were over inflated and slightly uncomfortable and unfortunately, my shower didn't fully engage, leaving me standing in a foot bath most of the time. All the furniture was of good quality and nothing look too worn down. I enjoyed flipping through the books in our "middle Eastern" themed room.

Onto the perks: Complimentary breakfast in the Reading Room was superb, with a wide selection of baked goods, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs and a fantastic coffee/cappacino machine that produced whatever your coffee desire was, from espresso & americano to lattes. The staff was attentive and quickly removed empty plates or provided water refills. In the evening, the complimentary wine and cheese was equally plentiful with several cheese and cracker selections, along with marinated olives, mixed buts, fresh veggies and more. You are free to pour your own beverages, red or white wine and prosecco.

We enjoyed a drink at Madison & Vine on the first floor of the hotel, it seemed like quite a popular establishment. The rooftop bar is also a fun hot spot, though a bit smaller. The view from the rooftop was spectacular in the evening.

Front desk and bellman were helpful and friendly, providing us with a subway map immediately upon request. We also took advantage of an online offer for a free bottle of wine, which was delivered immediately to our room. Overall it was a nice visit with some great perks.

We had a great time and would highly recommend this charming boutique hotel to anyone visiting NYC. The room was elegant and had a great view of the NY Public Library. Staff were friendly and extremely accomodating. A lot of really nice extras like the complimentary breakfasts, evening wine and cheese tastings, and free water! Would definitely stay there again.
