“great location, staff and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

located on Madison Ave this hotel is understated but offers very good service at a location that is central to more or less everywhere in Manhattan.

you also get the benefit of of a breakfast and all day coffee and cakes.

we had what was the smallest room. it was fine for our 5 night stay although the bed was not the usual US king size. everything was very clean and well presented. i cannot see how this can be beaten for value and location. 4.5 stars. would be 5 if bed was larger.

I have just returned from a weeks stay in NY and chose this hotel due to the large amount of positive comments. I was not disappointed. The staff are incredibly friendly and really will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The rooms are amazing. Incredibly clean and stylish too!
This is a smallish hotel by NY standards with only twelve floors but this only helps to maintain the service. A wonderful treat is the breakfast and sparkling wine and cheese which is included. This hotel is a very fine find indeed. Possibly the only quibble would be the incessant Air con or heating noise which seems to run in all the rooms. They were very willing to relocate me to another floor but it was there as well.
Will be booking again for later on in the year.

Room Tip: I could hardly hear outside noise from the street. A/C noise is everywhere in the hotel. Just bring...

The Library hotel was a perfect choice for my week long stay in NY. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the location was superb, the rooms were beautifully decorated and immaculately clean and the breakfast and social reading room were a great plus - I enjoyed a healthy breakfast and was able to come back during the day for a drink and cake!
The Library has a relaxed, stylish New York charm about it and I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: I was very happy with my room - there was a little street noise but it's worth it to be in the c...

We visited in June 2012 as an anniversary trip with my wife, to be honest the library is not my type of hotel. As a business traveller, im used to everything that the library is not and should not be. The problem with a 5 star chain hotel like your Starwoods, Hiltons and alike are that they feel like hotels, the library consequently feels like home. My wife adores books and hence adored everything the hotel stood for, however besides a room and a bathroom i look for more to differentiate a good hotel from a great one.

Firstly, beyond bricks and mortar.. service, the guys on the front desk and the guys on the door. Next time you see these guys, give them a pat on the back and tell them that the hotel is there because they are there. Really are a differentiator between the library and the many NYC hotels.

Secondly, location. The hotel is strategically located, near grand central, walking distance from times square.. if you can walk, you can walk from THIS hotel.

Negatives, coming from a place where hotel rooms are the size of some apartments in the West, if your not used to it the rooms can be small however that being said the rooms are clean, well kept and secure.

NYC is a special place, the library takes nothing away from this amazing city.. in fact, it makes NY, NY.. and thats why we keep on coming back!

I stayed at the Library hotel in March 2013 for 5 nights on a business trip to New York. The central location on Madison Avenue (by 41st St). close to Grand Central Station was perfect both for heading uptown or downtown and I was able to walk everywhere during my trip.

Best things about the hotel apart from the location? Firstly, they include a buffet breakfast in their second flour lounge. Not huge, but tasty fruit salad, cereals, toast, breads/bagels, yoghourts and boiled eggs. Just enough to set you up for your day. Secondly, in the evening the lounge is set up with free wine and drinks, cheese, biscuits and some other snacks. The wine (red, white and sparkling Prosecco) was good quality and just what you needed to unwind at the end of a busy day.

Thirdly they have wi-fi which works and was free. Perfect as one of my pet hates is having to pay ridiculous hotel prices for internet and usually charged per device which is a rip-off.

Typically for NYC the rooms are not huge, but all you need is in there with closet space, a desk area, room safe and large bathrooms. The beds are very firm, but again I prefer that. Also as there are only 6 rooms per floor there's not a lot of noise from the corridor with people passing by.

The guests all seemed a nice crowd whilst I was there, very quiet, considerate and polite at the buffet (as opposed to a bun fight in larger hotels). The staff on the front desk and 2nd floor lounge were all lovely too.

All in all highly recommended apart from the ridiculous number of taxes that are added to your bill (room tax, tourist tax, occupancy tax etc. totalling about 18%). Quite ridiculous but true anywhere in the city so not the hotel's fault.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the street but are double glazed. As is often the case with NYC there is a lot o...

I travel a lot when I work. In short, getting to a hotel is something I do every week and it reminds me of work. Picking the right hotel for a vacation is therefore quite difficult for me. Clean rooms and healthy breakfast is not enough. There has to be something more. The Library Hotel had that something. The staff helped us with everything, they booked a bicycle-ride in Brooklyn, they asked how the show we went to was and we felt as if we were regular customers after only a day. The After Work wine was generous, the thematic rooms made us curious and the rooftop bars...
I actually hesitate to post this review on Tripadvisor, because I am afraid that this little gem of a hotel will become too popular, the prices will go up, and the feeling will be lost.
This hotel and The Marriott in Cairo are hotels I will return to when on vacation.
And yes, I bought their morning robe, I took it home to create the illusion that I never actually checked out.
Maybe I'm a sucker for this hotel because I'm a writer, but my guess is that anyone who loves books and New York will love it too.

Excellent decision. the hotel is very nice, the service excellent. The only thing to criticize is the size of the room, too small. The location is perfect, close to everything. Ideal to go with your partner.
No doubt return to this hotel.
