“Such a Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

I was so excited about staying the Library Hotel and my expectations were exceeded. Our room was delightful. If you love books, reading, and libraries, this will be an experience you won't forget. The Reading Room, with delicious breakfast, treats, and of course the wine and cheese reception, is beautiful and cozy. I love the front desk staff encouraged us to have our local NYC friends meet us for the reception before we headed out for the night. I had my girlfriend meet us one night, and my husband had his friend meet us another night. This was so special to be able to welcome them and show them a hidden gem in their city. The bathroom in our room was fantastic. The entire hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. I must also mention the fabulous location right in the heart of Midtown. Steps from Bryant Park, NYPL, and minutes from Rockefeller Center. I absolutely hope to return to the Library Hotel!

Room Tip: We got a little hot one night and opened the window. The hotel provided ear plugs and this was grea...

We have just returned from a stay in NYC to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday, and chose to stay at Library Hotel. There was an immediate attraction to the hotel, firstly from the photos we had seen on the web, then when we spotted the Guilty Pleasures package specifically themed around the book lover (my wife writes) we knew this was the place for us. The offer of the package we chose was a "foot of books" chosen to meet the needs of guest, and my wife's expectations were more than exceeded. I say more than exceeded because the foot of books was more like two feet of books!! As to the hotel itself, it is a small, independent with a more homely, welcoming feel than the big hotel chains offer. Returning to our room of an evening soon became referred to as "going home". All of the hotels rooms are themed around a certain subject, and our room was themed on "Maths" (sorry Americans, Math is wrong) and although compact, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was firm and comfortable, the lighting was subdued, and the dark woods of the bed, cupboards, desk etc. created a warm, cozy feeling. The bathroom was a very good size and well-equipped with everything you would expect. Our room rate included the continental breakfast and although I always have very low expectations of a continental breakfast I was pleasantly surprised with the food on offer. Plenty of veriety of pastries, breads, bagels, fresh fruit salad and yoghurts, and I was even able to create a half-decent cup of tea!
On one evening we returned to our room after dinner and took advantage of the extensive DVD collection and enjoyed "It's a wonderful life". Not a necessity, but a nice option to have when not tired and still adjusting to the timezone change.
As to the staff at the hotel, all members were courteous and extremely helpful, be it helping with luggage transporation and storage, or arranging a car or a restaurant booking.
The hotel's location was ideal for our stay with close proximity to Grand Central Terminal for subway travel, an easy walk (although along busy streets) to landmarks such as the Empire State Building, NYC Museum, Bryant Park, Times Square, and the many shops located on 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. We walked extensively during our stay as the hotel was so ideally located for so many things.
We would definitely recommend a stay at the Library Hotel, and it will be top of our list whenever we decide to return to NYC. Try it, I'm sure you'll love it too.

Room Tip: I'm confident that all rooms are of a high standard

All of the positive reviews about The Library Hotel are correct. This is a beautiful, clean , modern oasis with a fabulous staff and a wonderful breakfast and wine and cheese included. I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else in Manhattan! Thank you for a wonderful stay....

This was my first trip to NY and this hotel far surpassed my expectations. The service was excellent. You can call down 24/7 for anything you may need and the staff is friendly and attentive. I appreciated the free bottles of water and dvd's that were available throughout our stay. The reading room was a great place to relax from a long day of sight-seeing. The rooftop bar is another plus, with both indoor and outdoor areas to sit. This hotel is very close to Grand Central Station, which is tremendously convenient if you plan to use public transportation around the city. Another benefit to its location is the reduction of noise in the general area after 10pm. I was shocked at how relaxed and quiet this area was in the evening. The rooms were comfortable and well-kept. If you are looking for a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere along with some pampering, I recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask at check-in to get a room facing the NY Library if you desire a city view. Rooms off of 41st are...

My wife and I just spent four nights at the Library Hotel. it's in a great location, 2 mins from 5th Avenue in one direction and Grand Central in the other. Bryant Park is close at hand too whether you want good subway links or just to watch the skaters in the park. The hotel is lovely and, themed as it is on a library, it is a real haven in the otherwise bustling New York. But service is their real strong point, from the coffees and cakes available 24/7 in the Reading Room to the complimentary wine and cheese available early each evening for guests - a perfect precursor to an evening out on the town! Special mention for the staff though - they really are exceptional (especially Christian on the door). The only thing to be aware of is that the rooms are a bit tight - but this is New York after all. Definitely worth considering.

Very good location, excellent and friendly service, everything to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Afternoon cheese and wine is a very good option and when you come to the hotel after a very busy day you feel like a being in a haven of peace!
We had a queen deluxe room and although it is very nice and well furbished with a modern bathroom, it seemed a bit small sized according to our standards but certainly not to NYC standards!!
Next time we'll book a suite!!

Wonderful small hotel with great amenities and helpful staff. Very convenient to Grand Central on a relatively quiet street. Ample continental breakfast and evening wine and cheese. Would stay again - enough said. Restaurant connected to it was also a good choice for us before heading back home. We had a late lunch at about 4:00 pm which was very nice and when we walked past the evening before it was very busy, a good sign.

Room Tip: Stayed in Queen room which was fine for us.
