We have just returned from a stay in NYC to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday, and chose to stay at Library Hotel. There was an immediate attraction to the hotel, firstly from the photos we had seen on the web, then when we spotted the Guilty Pleasures package specifically themed around the book lover (my wife writes) we knew this was the place for us. The offer of the package we chose was a "foot of books" chosen to meet the needs of guest, and my wife's expectations were more than exceeded. I say more than exceeded because the foot of books was more like two feet of books!! As to the hotel itself, it is a small, independent with a more homely, welcoming feel than the big hotel chains offer. Returning to our room of an evening soon became referred to as "going home". All of the hotels rooms are themed around a certain subject, and our room was themed on "Maths" (sorry Americans, Math is wrong) and although compact, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was firm and comfortable, the lighting was subdued, and the dark woods of the bed, cupboards, desk etc. created a warm, cozy feeling. The bathroom was a very good size and well-equipped with everything you would expect. Our room rate included the continental breakfast and although I always have very low expectations of a continental breakfast I was pleasantly surprised with the food on offer. Plenty of veriety of pastries, breads, bagels, fresh fruit salad and yoghurts, and I was even able to create a half-decent cup of tea!
On one evening we returned to our room after dinner and took advantage of the extensive DVD collection and enjoyed "It's a wonderful life". Not a necessity, but a nice option to have when not tired and still adjusting to the timezone change.
As to the staff at the hotel, all members were courteous and extremely helpful, be it helping with luggage transporation and storage, or arranging a car or a restaurant booking.
The hotel's location was ideal for our stay with close proximity to Grand Central Terminal for subway travel, an easy walk (although along busy streets) to landmarks such as the Empire State Building, NYC Museum, Bryant Park, Times Square, and the many shops located on 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. We walked extensively during our stay as the hotel was so ideally located for so many things.
We would definitely recommend a stay at the Library Hotel, and it will be top of our list whenever we decide to return to NYC. Try it, I'm sure you'll love it too.
