“Absolutely Terriffic! Not a Flaw!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2009

Let me start by saying, "We don't cut corners on anything", otherwise, we just stay home. When traveling, we want to be pampered and feel special. That is why when we travel, we always book 5 Star Hotels. This past week we were meeting my daughter in NYC, to take in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and enjoy another NYC experience. However, my daughter did not want to spend the usual $400-$500 a night, in NYC, and, in this recession, who could blame her. I searched Trip Advisor...I will NEVER travel anywhere, unless I check Trip Advisor, and search the reviews and photographs. I found good reviews for the Hotel Chandler. The rate was $189.00 per night!. I was quite skeptical, and did not want to stay at this hotel. Based on the price alone...I was very uncomfortable, to say the least. But, in lieu of my daughter's request, decided to take the chance, and we booked the Chandler Hotel for two nights. All my fears were disolved when we arrived at the hotel. GREAT! is all I can say. Really GREAT! Beautiful Contemporary Hotel. I was really surprised...There ARE lovley hotels in the city at reasonable prices. The staff could not be nicer. They were very accommodating and congenial. Valet parking, to boot! The photographs on-line, are EXACTLY the same in person. The hotel is a trendy contemporary, with nice woods and marble accents... they did not cut corners anywhere in this hotel. A lovley wrought Iron Staircase, for those who choose to take the stairs, marble public restrooms with choice toiletries, and a smart dining room. "They did not skimp on the decor, either". The Bedrooms were lovely, not large (12x16), but well appointed, extremely clean and well maintained. A VERY comfortable bed with down pillows and comforters, and chocolates on the pillows at turn-down. Dark wood cabinetry and silk draperies. Very nicely done. The bathroom was not large, but a nice size, and the shower with ceiling rainshower ...nice touch. They also provided plush bathrobes and slippers, internet, and flat screen TV, and room service!. Surprisingly, the hotel was quiet. The hallways and elevators were well kept and nicely appointed. I've heard people say "When you travel, and are on the go, a beautiful, expensive room is wasted, as you are not in it long enough to enjoy it". I disagree completely. I want to feel great when I step in the room. "Travel, is a total experience, from the moment you leave your home, until the moment you arrive at your destination. I will definately return to the Hotel Chandler. I feel this is a 4 1/2+ plus hotel. Thanks again, to Trip Advisor!

I recently returned from a four-night stay at the Chandler while visiting friends in NYC, and I will echo the vast majority of reviewers here that rank this gem among the best Manhattan hotels.

Everything about the stay was top-notch. The staff were friendly, helpful (yet unobtrusive), and took every opportunity to make me feel at home. Case in point, after a nightmarish travel day, I was graciously upgraded to a Deluxe King room. The housekeeping kept the whole place SPOTLESS, the room was immaculate every evening upon my arrival - you can definitely consider it "barefoot friendly".

The room itself was great (considering its size), the layout was just right. The plush chairs, flat-screen TV, in-room safe, iPod dock radio, work desk, blackout blinds, and spacious armoire were all appreciated and each got put to good use. The decor is warm and inviting, with a very comfortable bed to rest one's weary feet after a long day's walk. Then, in the morning, a powerful rainfall shower and free copy of The Times helped start the day right.

The location is ideal: the ESB looms over you from right around the corner, Macy's, MSG, Penn Station, and Times Square are all within a 15 minute walk. Neighbourhood cafes and pubs abound (try the Oxford just up 5th for a great breakfast), while the 6, N, R, and V trains are all within three blocks to take you anywhere you want to go. For all it offers, thankfully, the neighbourhood still provides a quiet night's rest.

To sum up, the Chandler's "bang for your buck" is very tough to beat. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to any NYC visitor, it certainly helped make my first trip a memorable one. Thanks again to everyone there!

So quite where the (few) negative comments about the Hotel Chandler come from is anyone's guessing, as this must be one of the few true hidden gems in NYC.

A superb compliment of staff, clean, tidy and well-decorated rooms, awesome location and a real attention-to-detail ethic make the Chandler a well-advised stay in New York.

We really couldn't have asked for more. Devoid of the sterile chain-tel atmosphere that blights many of it's similarly-equipped but hideouly overpriced competitors, the Chandler enjoys a true uniqueness you're going to struggle to source anywhere else in mid-town Manhattan.

A hotel that I, as a businessman, would have no problem recommending to both friends and clients alike.

November 08. Stayed 4 nights . Really nice hotel, rooms clean and well equipped. Staff helpful, great bar which had a recession happy hour all drinks half price. The location was fantastic short stroll to Macy's and the Empire state building. Staff advised us to use the underground to get around which we did and we felt completely safe and gave us some good recommendations of places to eat, go to Houstons it.'s not far from Bloomingdales well worth a visit. Will stay at this hotel again thankyou to those people on tripadvisor who recommended it.

I recently spent 6 wonderful days in New York and the Hotel Chandler only served to enhance the trip. From the check in staff to the bellmen and chambermaids, the service was faultless. As a former Hotel Manager I might be fussier than most, but I had no cause for complaint. The entire Hotel was spotless, the staff polite, friendly, and very helpful. Its the little things that make the difference and the Chandler goes the extra yard with things like the mints on the pillows and complimentary newspapers. One minor quibble would be the size of the bathrooms. A bit small but mine was equipped with the most powerful shower I've ever used. A Hotel well worth considering for your stay!

From the moment we got there, the staff greated us cheerfully and was very helpfull. The rooms were very nice and trendy. It had everything we needed as well as great room service. One thing that i always use being a woman, is the blow dryer. Some hotels have awful ones but this one has the good ones that actually dry up your hair. Also, If you need a good night's sleep, you will get it there with those comfortable beds!

Asides from all that, you are walking distance to many restaurants, attractions and shopping.

I would definately stay there again and recommend this hotel to anyone!!

4 night stay with a mid-winter special rate and nothing but praise.

Great location in terms of walking or hopping a subway. Staff were helpful and courteous. Room was small, but they tell you that, and besides, when I'm in New York I don't plan to spend long periods of time in my room.

Special rate was much better than rack rate which certainly made this more desirable
