“Great location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2013 and booked the hotel through hotwire.

The hotel is located within walking distance to many of NYC's subway lines. You a short walk away from the 4/6 trains, the N/R trains, and the B/D/F/M trains - making it easy to get anywhere in the city. It's about a 15 minute walk to Penn Station or Grand Central. The Empire State Building is right around the corner and there is lots of shopping within walking distance along 34th street (including Macy's flagship store at Herald Square).

This was a noticeably older hotel, with some attempts at "updating". Most importantly though, it was clean. Our room was small, as one would expect in Manhattan, but since most who visit NYC intend on seeing the city and not lounging in their room, this shouldn't be a problem to most. Free coffee and tea offered each morning in the lobby and free working wifi in our room.

The staff was very friendly - everyone we encountered during our stay was genuinely pleasant. It was nice that the staff made the effort to acknowledge you each time you left and returned.

Overall, this is a good "no-frills" hotel for those looking for a good location to explore NYC from and not wanting to be in the heart of midtown or Times Square.

Hotel Chandler were extremely nice and friendly. We have been a little bit difficult - in March our trip had to be cancelled for family-related reasons. Then, when we arrived in September, we found out that the room we had ordered was not actually the kind of room we liked; we ended up moving twice, but the staff never stopped being friendly, as was all the other staff. Everybody kept smiling and making us feel that they really meant those smiles.

The rooms are nice, and the location is great - just in the southernmost part of Midtown, which means that many parts of Manhattan are at walking distance.

Whenever we go back to New York, we will go back to Hotel Chandler.

The hotel is part of the Small Leading Hotels group and deservedly. The rooms are fairly large for NYC and well equipped. Semi contemporary decor, clean and neat.

Our breakfast was not inexpensive and the service was only all right.

Bell staff and checkin staff were excellent.

Walking distance from Penn Station and easy travel to just about anywhere.

There was a lot of construction noise but that's life in the city I guess.

All in all good value and I would stay there again.

The hotel staff were extremely courteous and accommodating. Charming hotel, great location. Easy walk to the sights and a business meeting on Park Avenue. We very much enjoyed our staff and would definitely recommend them to anyone visiting mid-town Manhattan.

This is a very nice boutique hotel. Doormen always offer a warm welcome. Plenty of people around to assist you with anything from directions, getting a car or general questions on great places to eat. It's rather hidden with all of the construction but a great place to stay. Rooms are small but clean and beds are very comfortable. Love the 'turn down' service at night with the chocolate.

Conveniently located in Mid-Town Manhattan, good neighbourhood for walking and several sights within walking distance, notably Empire State Building three blocks away. Our double room de luxe was spacious and well kept. The hotel staff was helpful and service minded. We felt very much at home and will absolutely choose it again for the next trip

Room Tip: The ninth floor out of fourteen suited us very well

We ended up getting this hotel through one of those "secret hotel" deals and were extremely happy with the find. The staff was one of the friendliest, most helpful hotel staff I've had. They repeatedly made an effort to make sure that we were enjoying our stay---whether it be through pleasant smiles, happy hello's, chocolate on our pillows, or answering any one of our questions about the hotel or NYC. There was free wi-fi (that worked well) and free coffee/tea/water in the lobby. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated. The rooms were a little small, but it's NYC and expected. We asked for larger rooms (2 beds) and because the hotel was booked, we were unable to get one---however, we were offered a chance to get them for our remaining two days and we realized that our original rooms would suffice. (Plus, we didn't come to NYC to stay cooped up in the hotel. The hotel was centrally located, close to shopping and other attractions, as well as a couple of subway stations, but not in the midst of Times Square (so it was still a little quiet). I would highly recommend this hotel because of the friendly staff, central location, and clean rooms.
