“Great place for short visit to NYC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My husband and I stayed here because it wa a couple of blocks away from a friend's place. Turned out to be very convenient because w could actually walk to the Empire State Building. We went up for a Mets game and fit more than expected in this overnight stay. The hotel is also close to a Heartland Brewery. The hotel staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable. Because the hotel was so close to the Empire State Building we were able to walk and get there before tha crowds came by? Overall we were very happy with our experience staying here.

Hotel Chandler was in the perfect location as far as we were concerned. Turning left out the hotel takes you to 5th Avenue and if you look right, the Empire State is right in front of you. Walking to times square is easy and takes maybe 10 to 15 minutes and there is a nearby metro on 33rd Street. Because the hotel was being tidied up in some areas (not that we saw any work at all and weren't inconvenienced) we were offered free wine and snacks every night between about 5.30pm and 7? This was most welcome when we arrived back after a day sightseeing!! The hotel staff were excellent and really helpful when we needed some help on locations etc. There is free coffee and tea at all times (coffee was superb) and again this was good when you were going out or coming in. There is a little place around the corner (on 5th Avenue) where you can get rolls, fresh fruit, bagels etc at a really good price and so we got our breakfast there and took it back to the room before we went out. All the locals use it so it must be good! The room we had was fine, two double beds as we had a 15 year old with us, and we were provided with new towels every day and the maid service was excellent. Again, when we were checking out we had no hassle and were helped into our hired mini van by the hotel staff with cases etc etc. My wife unfortunately left her brand new Ralph Lauren sunglasses around the reception area at check out and although I've e mailed the hotel, I haven't heard anything back yet about them being handed in. So if the hotel staff read this ...... Anyway, if we return to New York we will definitely be booking up at the Chandler again, it was ideal in all aspects. Enjoy .......

Room Tip: Get a room higher up where it maybe a bit quieter. We were on the 10th floor and had no noise at all...

Joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World about 4 months ago and had our first stay in a member hotel in UK last week b4 travelling to NYC. Advisory on SLHW WEB SITE says auto room upgrade and complementary breakfast after one nights stay in member hotel. On check in late at Chandler Monday I asked if this was the case and was told nothing doing as we did not qualify. Emailed SLHW and asked for confirmation which arrived Tuesday am. Showed this to concierge and b'fast agreed to but no upgrade available yet hotel not full. Only disappointment really as hotel is lovely and very well situated and room is nice but small and and staff are very accommodating. Will possibly stay here again

I visit NY about 3 times a year and each time stay at the Chandler. The location is central but it's on a quiet side street, away from the hub-bub (but not construction, beyond their control). The front desk, the concierge, the bellmen, everyone is gracious and pleasant, always a smile. I printed my boarding pass at the hotel computer and left a bag with purchases there. Five minutes later I got a call from Lubie at the front desk that they'd found my bag (which I hadn't missed yet) and she was sending it up. Even though it didn't have anything identifying it was mine, somehow they knew. There are comfy beds, fine linens, well-appointed bathroom, hot coffee all the time. They all make Hotel Chandler my hotel of choice.

This hotel was fantastic , rooms although small were well equiped and everything was top quality
Staff were extremely friendly nothing was too much bother

Breakfast was overpriced and consisted only off continental , that was not an issue as being so central there was plenty of breakfast places in walking distance

I would recommend this hotel to anyone , location was fantastic very central to everything

Service, cleanliness, quality of room all would have made it at least a 4 star, but the clogged shower drain and the clogged wash basin were the deal breakers. I have relatively few needs when I get a hotel room, but a nice functioning bathroom is one of them. After my first attempted shower, the ridiculously slow drain caused water to overflow onto the main bathroom floor. At the same time, the wash basin also had a slow drain with clogged overflow, further worsening the problem on the bathroom floor. I gave them a chance to unclog everything while I went out for a bit to eat. Came back and tried to take a shower again. Exactly the same problem recurred. I stayed my one night and left, never attempting to take another shower.

Room Tip: Booked through Small Luxury Hotels and got instant upgrade.

Dear JHuPiTer:

I am so sorry to hear about what occurred during your stay. I do see notations that an engineer did go up to your room to fix your issues however it appears they were not. We will be reviewing this internally to see why this was not fixed correctly.

Once again my sincerest apologies and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Your sincerely,

This small, boutique hotel is located just around the corner from the Empire State Building. It is an easy walk to Penn railway station, the 34th Street subway and also Times Square. The location is therefor quite good. Rooms are a decent size, especially for New York City and are very well appointed. Bathrooms are however a little on the small size. They contain a bar fridge a safe and there is good,in room free wi fi. The management and staff are extremely helpful making this a very pleasant place to stay. The concierge will arrange anything you could possibly want. The only complaint that we had was the recently opened bar. It was a little too antiseptic -especially for New York.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking 31st Street. They let in more light
