“Terrible rooms. Awful service. Nice bars, but don't stay.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Terrible, tiny rooms that are stocked with paper cups, 'chiller boxes' rather than fridges and if you think about complaining expect surly, unapologetic and rude service.

When we checked in to our (shoebox) room the TV wasn't working, the bedside lights weren't working, there were no toiletries (hand soap) in the bathroom (cupboard!). However it was the air conditioning fan positioned right by your pillow - it sounded like an aircraft taking off - that kept us awake.

We reported the issues with the room and had to ask for an apology. Several hours later we were given a new room.

Moreover the corridors are littered with rubbish - it seems this big hotel isn't looked after very well at all. If you - like me - have stayed at The Clift or other Morgans Hotels then you may be surprised by the Hudson.

Everyone I've spoken to about our trip was aware of the Hudson having tiny rooms - even tiny for New York which understandably has smaller hotel rooms than most cities.

Yes, the bars are great - the rooftop bar wasn't open when we were there - but the drinks prices are expensive and at the end of the day you pick a hotel for somewhere to sleep.

Room Tip: Pay for a larger room or don't bother!

This is a tourist hotel good quality but basic fab location ideal for exploring this wonderful city. All amenities on the doorstep 24 hours a day. Staffed by hard working diligent people who make your visit special. Thank you Team Hudson.

Easy to miss when driving past. Entrance not inviting. Once you go up the escalator you are in reception. Very dimly lit (on purpose). Staff very friendly. The room we were allocated already had people in it but we were given another room straight away when we informed the staff. Plenty of lifts. Corridors are grey carpeted with grey walls and lime green doors. Not attractive at all. Rooms small. Bathroom very small. The window at the end of the bathroom looks into the bedroom. There is a muslin curtain on the bedroom side but you can still see everyone taking a shower. You need to pull the shower curtain across when you use the loo otherwise you can see in. Very clean though and serviced every day. There are 5 areas to have a drink but they are like loud discos. No where to sit and have a drink in a calm atmosphere after a full day walking around the Big Apple. If you do sit in one of the seating areas it is very dim. Even the lamps are dim with dark shades. You would need a torch to read anything. I tried very hard to like this hotel but after 5 days it still hadn't grown on me. It is a 4 star and apparently won an award when opened! I was very disappointed with it. Location wise it was great. 2minutes walk to Central Park and subway and 5 minutes to Times Square.

On walking into the lobby your expectations were raised as it looked stunning. A glass atrium covered in ivy and dark, moody lighting creates a great atmosphere. The staff were always helpful and polite and did their best to help.

After being awake for nearly 24 hours we got to our double room at nearly 1 am and all I wanted to do was sleep. I had read the reviews on the small rooms so I was not surprised when we got there. What I was surprised at was the 13 degrees that it was in the room. I thought a window had been left open and on checking them I found that both windows were closed but were such bad quality there was a gail blowing through the gaps. The temperature in the room was due to the heating not working.

The staff were great and put us in the apartment on the top floor for the night which was great. We then we're moved to a slighting bigger room than our original which looked lovely. On closer inspection there were lots of little finishing touches that really let it down. The quality of the finish was not good, the shower curtain was too short so it flooded the bathroom every time we had a shower, and the water temperature was luke warm at best. The windows were the same as the previous room with huge drafts blowing through them and we had to pull down the blind and the shutters to limit this. I didn't expect New York to be a quiet city but having a room with with windows that let in every sound of the city make sleeping a bit tricky.

By far and away the worst aspect of the hotel was the antiquated heating system. This would regularly bang and crash at all hours of the night at such a volume it would wake us up with a start and getting back to sleep would have to wait until it finished. We stayed for 4 nights and never had a full nights sleep.

Good points
The staff were always polite and helpful and tried their best to help with a problem
The lobby and bars looked stunning. The courtyard wasn't used as it was too cold but I imagine in summer it would be a great place to hang out.
Great location, just round the corner from Central Park, 5 minutes from 5th Avenue and a 15 minute walk from Times Square.
Beds are very comfy.

Bad points
Poor finishing in the rooms
Windows that are so poor they might as well not be there
A heating system that really believes that New York is the city that never sleeps and neither should you.
Luke warm or cold showers making sure you're properly woken up after your great nights sleep.
The $40 of taxes on top of the room rate that you were never told about until you come to check out.

To sum up, great looking hotel let down by some basic points. I would consider a less stylish hotel for a stay that kept you warm and comfortable and then you could pay this hotel a visit and sample it's bars and club

Room Tip: The higher up the building the quieter it gets.

I have a love/hate relationship with this hotel. I love the hip decor but hate the micro small rooms. Also the resort fee is ridiculous. It is still kind of a fun place to stay. The staff is very helpful. The location is good with good transportation and restaurants nearby.

If you're looking for a glamorous, spacious room - keep looking! I needed a clean bathroom, and comfortable bed. That is exactly what I got, with fantastic pillows, and a great location. Reasonably priced for Manhattan. Would definitely stay there again!

I feel this hotel fell far short of a 4 star. The check-in/checkout process was very long. As its been stated the rooms are tiny, however going in with that knowledge we were still shocked at the cruise ship type size. The bed was a twin at best with a lumpy mattress. The lobby is very nice and it seems to be a great place to hang out for the late night crowd. The noise level from the hotel and the street is very loud. This is a "W" wannabe. I would not recommend.
