“Perfect location for exploring Lower Manhattan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

This hotel has the best location for an extraordinary view of any we've stayed in in Manhattan. Plan a downtown visit when you go, since this is not convenient if all your activity is uptown. The view over Battery Park and the Hudson is show-stopping. You'll see endless activity in the air, on the water, and on the ground...you can spend hours just looking out the window. And there's so much to do. At least five musuems are within walking distance. Walking along the Hudson on the Esplanade can take an entire day. It is convenient to the WTC and to South Street Seaport. Many fine restaurants are nearby. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, clean and commodious. The club lounge has good food and drink at all hours and wonderful service. The front desk, however, seems often overwhelmed. The hotel restaurant is adequate, but you can walk to many better restaurants. It's just all about the view!

Room Tip: Request a Statue of Liberty view room 10th floor or above with a telescope: a corner suite is ideal!

After reviewing many hotels for our stay in NYC, my family was very happy we chose the Ritz Carlton Battery Park. our rooms were clean and quiet, with comfy beds and pillows. We stayed on the 12th floor with rooms that had views of the Statue of Liberty that also looked out on the lovely park below. The bathroom had a separate tub and shower, and water closet. There was only one sink, but it was in a wide cabinet, with shelves and a drawer a drawer on each side of the sink for storing personal items. It was nice to have a place to put our toiletries away so that they were out of sight, yet handy. Robes, slippers and a hair dryer are provided.

One of the best features of staying at this property is the wide walking/jogging/biking path along the Hudson River in an area of residential buildings with some restaurants and stores. (Whole Foods is about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel.) There are tons of people walking their dogs, jogging or strolling along the river from morning until night. There are public lawns, flower gardens and play areas for kids. The area was clean and felt very safe. (We were at Central Park one evening and saw at least a half-dozen rats!) Be sure to grab a burger at The Shake Shack, a local favorite, about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. They do not have gluten free buns, but you can order a (bun-less) gluten free burger.

The hotel was also convenient for walking to the 911 Memorial, the ferry for the Statue of Liberty and the Financial District, with it's points of interest including the New York Stock Exchange, the Wall Street bull, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Building where George Washington was sworn-in as President.

We found the service at the hotel to be very good in general. House keeping kept our rooms nice, although they could be a little more generous with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Fortunately, I always pack my own, so my husband got by on the small tubes that were provided. I have to eat gluten free, and the kitchen and restaurant staff were very knowledgable about what I could eat on the menu. In addition, room service menus had GF items marked right on the menu. This was a fantastic bonus that put me at ease about what I could safely order. Sadly, the breakfast potatoes are not gluten free, but I hope the hotel will consider serving ones that are. It's always a bummer for us GF people when we have to pay for a whole meal, but are not served a whole meal. One morning the kitchen substituted fruit for the hash browns, but it wasn't very good so I didn't ask for it again. They do have GF bread, so every morning I had toast with my breakfast (another huge bonus). We like to eat breakfast in our room, but the staff taking orders on the phone are very busy, and so we had at least one item missing from our order every day. Still, they try very hard to please and make sure that food arrives hot and fresh.

The bellmen are very friendly, and helpful with bags, opening doors and getting taxis/limos. The staff at the front desk were also very helpful. The concierge offered to help us get our tickets to the Empire State Building, but my husband found out he would have to fill out a form and include his credit card information in order for them to do this. He did not feel comfortable having this information lying around at the desk, so we bought our tickets when we got to the Empire State Building and were glad that we did, because we did not have to pay a service charge; so saved money as well. We arrived there around 6pm on a Thursday and did not have a line.

We would definitely stay at The Ritz again on our next trip to NYC. It may be a $20 taxi ride to midtown, but we would much rather come home to this hotel at the end of the day.

Room Tip: Choose a room on one of the higher floors with a view of the Statue of Liberty and the park below.

This hotel is not necessarily convenient to all the top tourist attractions, but is in a quieter & primarily residential area. If you don't mind taking taxi's or the subway, then I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed on the Club level and found the variety of items served for breakfast, lunch and evening snacks quite acceptable. However, be aware that the room rate only provides for Club access for two individuals. Additional room occupants are charged a rather hefty daily rate. We also found that while the Club has a dress code and no cell phone policy, that families were allowed to let their small children run around the Club and create a noise nuisance. At one point, several guests left the Club to seek out more quiter areas in the hotel! The hotel should consider posting a NO CHILDEREN under the age of 5 in the Club.

Room Tip: Unless you absolutely need a view of the Statue of Liberty or the harbor, the additional $100+ a nig...

The pluses - great view from the LIberty Statue view and the club lounge has good food and drink (though decor is dull). Generally service is efficient. Very good fitness centre overlooking the Hudson on 14 floor
The negatives - soulless public areas including the restaurant. And hopeless check out, rude and inefficient. We had guaranteed late check out and our keys stopped working. Couldn't use the elevators or get into room. Lots if hanging around. When asked at checkout whether everything was fine I explained yes other than the problem with a key. No apology offered but a whole series of comments suggesting that it was our fault. All she had to say was sorry.

Room Tip: Statutes of Liberty view is worth the extra

I stayed in this hotel in June 2013 while visiting New York with a friend. The room was comfortable but I was expecting a more plush hotel for the price and the hotel chain. The reception area, the corridors were functional. The room was comfortable but I found the decor rather bland. Breakfast was good. I liked their fresh orange juice. The remainder of breakfast, i felt was too highly flavoured and I eat in the dining room on tow occasions. I also found the cost of breakfast rather expensive but as this is top hotel in New York, this is to be expected. The reason I stayed in downtown Manhatten was that we were attending a Meeting in the immediate area. I don't think I would stay there again.

I planned for a three (3) nights stay a couple of months ago and emailed the Rooms Manager, Prince Sanders and told him I was hoping for a nice upgrade. Well, I certainly didn't expect to get a Liberty Suite with 800 square feet and a huge telescope to boot in order to gaze across the waters around the Statue of Liberty etc.

Wonderful stay, wonderful staff, wonderful location.

I will be back!

We stayed here for a mini-vacation with two adults and two children. The room was big (we splurged on a suite), nicely decorated, clean and had a great view of the Statue of Liberty (even included a telescope). It was very quiet and the staff was excellent all around. Even my 6 years old daughter commented how "they must really like their jobs here" because everyone was so pleasant.

I highly recommend the lounge service as well. It's worth the extra charge. We used it for breakfast, which had something for everyone in our picky group. It's definitely not a standard continental breakfast by any means. We also went for snacks in the afternoon (which could pass for a meal easily), evening cocktails with appetizers (also could pass for a meal), and after dinner deserts. Most definitely worth it.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a view of the Statue of Liberty - it's worth it.
