“Great special occasion touches”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

Wifes birthday was noted on our reservation. when we arrived at our room, there was a mug, chocolates and a card for her - very nice treatment and unexpected. Hotel itself/our room could use some attention to detail. Quiet, very comfortable but the heat/air cond. units were rusted and somewhat noisy. Breakfast was nothing special. Overall a nice place and very accesible for theater goers and restaurant row.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014 via mobile

We recently stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon, and had a great time. It is very centrally located to many of the main attractions but is on a nice street that is fairly quiet, and the staff cannot do enough to help you.

The range of options for breakfast were good and the quality of the food was great, as was the complementary happy hour with cheese and wine that they offered each evening!

Unfortunately I was not very well during our stay, but the owner Susan couldn't have been more helpful and kind which I very much appreciated. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel with a personal touch we cannot recommend it highly enough.

I have just spent with my daughter an amazing week in New York ! It was our first trip together and we choose to come here as a treat. The success of our trip was largely due to the choice of the Hotel 414 : since we arrived the warm hospitality of the staff made us feel at home, the bedroom in the courtyard was spacious, lovely decorated and most importantly silent. We could hear birds singing in the morning! The location was perfect as well: a good variety of restaurants, we were at walking distance to Central Park, museums and the subway connections to explore the rest of the city were great. We loved in particular returning to this charming place from a tiring day visiting. I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely come back here for my next visit!

We (two 40-something couples) have just returned from our first visit to NY and had a brilliant experience staying in this fantastic hotel. The location is great in Hells Kitchen, only 10 minutes walk to three subways stations and surrounded by numerous restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is small but perfectly forrmed; if you want "bling" this place is not for you, but if you want a home-from-home then this is perfect. The bedrooms were great with a good bed, pillows etc and a great shower. Everything was spotlessly clean.
What really set the place apart though was Susan and her wonderful staff; whether it was bookng us restarants, chasing up tickets or just offering great advice they could not have been more friendly or helpful. If we are ever lucky enough to get the chance to return to NY we will definitely stay here again, it really was that good.

Room Tip: The hotel is split in two, separated by a small courtyard. The rooms at the back are slightly quiete...

414 Hotel is ideallly situated for getting around Manhatten. A boutique hotel,(22 guest rooms) it offers distinctiveness, charm and a personalised touch, comparing favourably to the larger "Chain" options. Particulary welcoming is the very good continental breakfast, included in the price, which is not often the case with alternative hotels. The addition of a "happy Hour" between 5.30 - 7:00pm each evening, when wine, whiskey and cheese and biscuits are available, is also a welcome touch. This offered the chance to meet other guests (and catch up over breakfast!) a great addition for the solo traveller.
414 is family-owned and the hosts were very welcoming and hospitable throughout the duration of my stay. The hotel consists of two buildings, linked by a terrace courtyard which provides an oasis of tranquility to sit out on a nice day. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest that when booking, you ask, if possible, to book a room which doesn't look out onto the main road - West 46th Street - NY is a 24hr city - and the tranquility of the terrace courtyard was not matched, in my experience, in the early hours of the morning! However, this was my only criticism. The room and bed was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend it and would be happy to make it my choice to stay should I return to NY.

Thanks to Susan and her staff we had an amazing weekend at 414 Hotel! This was an unplanned visit to this amazingly warm and welcoming boutique hotel! We had rented an apt through a vacation rental website for the night and at the last minute the owner had told us that he was having his friends stay at the apt and he was going to put us up at the hotel for 1 night and then move us into his apt... We were less than pleased with him but Susan and her staff made us feel immediately at home, warm, and welcomed! There was a fire going in the fire place when we arrived, they invited us in for breakfast and let us keep our bags there while we went out and toured around. They gave us advice, introduced us to the other hotel guests who were all fun and fantastic as well! A great international crowd! It was really nice! The rooms were great for NYC as well! The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious and had everything we needed! Housekeeping was amazing with a couple of extra towels.. And Drew, was there to greet us when we came in late at night! He was fun to talk with and we spent a few late night hours chatting it up with along with another guest! They have a great little happy hour in the evening as well for guests and Susan was so kind and even told me to invite one of my friends over who was staying in a near by hotel. We were supposed to change over to the the apt on the second night - and with all the inconvenience from the apt owner - when we got back late at night from a day of sightseeing and visiting friends.. and went up to find the apt was unacceptable with no warm water .. we called back to Drew at 414 Hotel and he found us a room... Everyone is amazing there and we will certainly be back. The neighborhood is in the perfect location - it's a quiet street but only a few blocks from Times square, and walking distance to everything.. you can always catch a cab if you want, and plenty of good restaurants close by. The staff is really good about making recommendations for sight seeing and eating as well (and reservations if you need them). This was one of our best stays ever in Manhattan! Highly recommend it! And we will be back on our next trip!!! Thank you Susan and everyone else!!! Including the guests for a wonderful weekend!

A two night stay in April. What was so striking was the helpfulness of the staff - and their award-winning friendliness. The room was beautiful, elegant even. We took our breakfast outside and enjoyed the serenity of the courtyard before heading to the many sites and sounds of the city.
We look forward to staying again.

Thank you so much for this beautiful review! You have no idea how much it means to us. Thank you especially for rating our staff's friendliness as "award-winning" -- I will share that with the team and I know they will be very proud to know that you felt that way. Thank you for taking the time to post such a glowing review. With deepest thanks, Susan

p.s. I usually have an idea of who is writing, but I can't figure out who you are -- we've had a lot of Bostonians, but can't think of a Kiwi Bostonian. Would love to know who you are...Susan
