“A weekend in New York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

We found this hotel during our search for somewhere to stay on our trip to New York in January, for my wife's birthday. There are many very good reviews for this Hotel and after much deliberation decided to book our stay.

We were not disappointed. The hotel is fabulous, the staff friendly, courteous, and there when you need them. It's just off Times Square (about 50 yds or so) and near the steps above the ticket booth. Be sure to ask for a quiet room and one above the 14th floor as this uses the express elevator, We were on 17 and it was lovely and quiet. The hotel has an Art Deco style lobby and there is free wine and beer between 5 and 6pm. You can also get coffee in the morning from 7am and hot chocolate in the afternoon at 4pm. Incidentally, if you sign up to the Kimpton loyalty program you get free wifi, and as we stayed on my wife's birthday we also had a free bottle of bubbly, a really nice touch.

If you want breakfast then I would recommend the Red Flame diner, turn right out of the hotel and right at the end of the street, 3 blocks turn left and it's on your left, the doorman will also be able to give you directions.

Now to things to do, and this being our first trip we tried to cram everything in ( or at least as much as possible). Empire State, Chrysler building and top of the rock are a must, as is world trade centre memorial and gardens, an incredibly sad and moving place. Be sure to find the survivor tree. The visitor centre should be open by mid 2014. Staton and Ellis Island is also worth doing, but do it early. The bus trips around the city are also very useful and you can hop on and off at each stop as necessary. The Guggenheim is, well round I guess, but still worth a visit, and you can combine it with a walk through Central Park.

There is probably lots more I could write, but I can say we will be back and staying at the Muse.

Room Tip: Above 14th floor as it uses the express elevator. Also ask for a quiet room

We returned from New York two days ago. Our stay was made so much better by staying at The Muse. All members of the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, sleek and modern. We loved the Happy Hour! It was a special birthday for my husband and the hotel responded by upgrading us for his birthday night and supplying champagne (thank you Barbara and Lauren!) The doorman (sorry, I don't know your name) also added to the birthday celebration.
We would highly recommend The Muse. Staff, location, amenities - all wonderful!

Went to NYC on Jan 25-26, 2014 to see Book of Mormon. Selected Muse based on location and reviews of past visitors. The hotel was 1/2 block from Broadway and 3 blocks from the theatre. The room was excellent. The staff very friendly and helpful. The wine hour was a nice touch. We had dinner in the hotel Restaurant NIOS and that was very good. I would return to The Muse on future trips to NYC

Four nights of luxury and comfort! Have stayed here many times...always my first choice for a New York City hotel. In the heart of the theatre district, close to everything. Friendly staff. You will not be disappointed by this place.

My partner and I stayed at The Muse for a week over Christmas. This was our first trip to New York and it was made extra special by staying at The Muse Hotel.
We arrived very early in the morning and the staff were welcoming and provided us with all the information we needed. We were also given a little pack from the staff at the front desk, which was great!
Our room was very clean, spacious and comfortable! All staff were friendly towards us and others and were all quite helpful.
We had the continental breakfast downstairs each morning, and thoroughly enjoyed it. On Christmas morning we decided to pay a little extra and get bacon and eggs, etc. Everything was prepared and cooked well, and the restaurant was very nice! Staff in the restaurant were also very accommodating and friendly.
The Muse decorated the lobby and entrance for Christmas, which looked beautiful, and the days leading up to Christmas, they had girls downstairs doing gift wrapping.

Each afternoon their was a complimentary wine hour and they also provided hot chocolate and apple cider. We really enjoyed this after coming in from the cold.

The only downside that we felt, was on Christmas morning- a lot of the staff weren't really into the Christmas spirit, and it felt a little bit like any other day when we first walked down into the lobby area. We thought that the hotel would have slipped a Merry Christmas note under our door in the morning or wished us Merry Christmas upon arrival into the Lobby. This is just a small downside and would definitely not change our minds about staying here again. We loved it!

The Muse is in a great location- close to Broadway and Times Square, but out of the way of the vehicle and pedestrian traffic!

This hotel was recommended to us, and we would definitely recommend it to others!
We will without a doubt come back and stay at The Muse Hotel next time we visit New York.

Thank you to The Muse for making our time in New York easy and enjoyable!

I give tHe Muse a "very good" review because of their excellent location which is convenient to the theater district and all of mid-town. Our suite was OK, on the back of the building so there was no street noise. The living room was very small but the bedroom was a nice size and the king bed was comfortable. The bath was strictly utilitarian, although it had good water pressure. The temperature was hard to control...the rooms where too hot. Of course, the tiny lobby was freezing so having wine downstairs was a non-starter. Staff was friendly but door service during our 4-day stay was literally non-existent. First time that I can remember being told by a Kimpton Hotel that one had to ask for turn-down service, which is not the norm in 4-star hotels in NYC (contrary to what the desk told me...we go to the city often). Had dinner after the theater one night in the restaurant. It was snowing pretty hard and they wanted to close down, so it was pretty rushed. However, much of the meal was quite good. So, for us a mixed bag. The location is brilliant but I will probably not return. The nearby Sofitel is a bit better.

Dear eastcoastvoyager,

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We sincerely appreciate all your feedback and comments.

We are happy to know that our location was perfect for your Big Apple stay.

We do apologize that the lobby was on the colder side during wine hour. New York is definitely experiencing some frigid temperatures.

We hope to have the chance to welcome you back and provide a WOW stay next time.

I've had several trip to NY over the past few years and stay at a different hotel each time. This was my first stay at The Muse and I will definitely stay here on my subsequent trips.
You can't beat the location. Great access to Times Square without being right in all the congestion. The staff were extremely friendly and incredibly helpful. The front desk staff were always happy to assist us, we never had to wait for our check-in / check-out or anytime we had an inquiry. There was always someone available. The food in the lounge was great (we just had some appetizers a few times, but all delicious and well priced). And of course, the wine reception every night is a great way to unwind and rest your very sore feet after a great day of walking around the city.

While I didn't bring my dog with me, I am a dog person and the hotel is very accommodating to guests and their dogs. They even had a little welcome sign in the doorway that includes the name of the arriving dogs that day (seriously, how cute is that! - dog guests get their own signs!). I just loved that aspect of this hotel. At one point we even saw the front desk acting as a bit of a doggy daycare (just for 10 minutes mind you) while the owners of the dogs ran an errand. It really helped round out how great and accommodating this hotel is to all guests.

Our room itself was spacious (rare for NY) though I'm sure we got a great deal as things are a bit slow in January. The housecoats gave us a big laugh (were leopard print and zebra print!).
And even at our 4:00 am departure, staff were bright and smiling and check out was a breeze.

Room Tip: We were on the 14th floor, so we could hear some noise from outside, but nothing that ever kept us u...
