“Super apartment.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014 via mobile

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at the 3rd floor apartment of Contempo design suites in April 2014. Very friendly staff, clean rooms, quiet at night, nice bed and an almost perfect location close to the Metro at Union Square.
The only "problem" was the missing door to the bathroom.

We Will come back

This private residence rental was very reasonably priced, clean and spacious. Three of us stayed in the Deluxe Studio plus 1 bedroom (with two twin beds) add-on which had a huge living area decorated with one chair, a bean bag chair, 4 stool eating table and a small kitchen area with a 2 burner cook top, microwave and mini fridge/freezer. This was perfect to have your own breakfast in and eat out the rest of the day. As it was an older building, it was neat to see radiator heating but they also had electric heaters too. The bathroom was a little small, but had a full tub/shower and built in hair dryer. Hot water was not available one morning so a quick splash that day to wake up. Door access is through punch code which was great so you didn't have to fuss with any key/access card to carry around or lose.

The location is transit friendly near Union Square subway station. At least 1 hr and 30 minutes by subway to/from JFK. My only complaint is there is no elevator so you do have to lug your luggage up one or two sets of long stairs, which I knew in advance and was prepared to do so. Just don't shop too much to add weight to your luggage on your departure. They can accept your luggage if you arrive early before check-in time and allow you to hold your luggage there into the evening on the day of checkout which was super appreciated as we had a late flight departure.

Great location, large quiet and clean rooms, . If you can survive without an elevator, wake up service, breakfast and front desk, this could be your place to stay in Manhattan.
The Inn is located in an older building and has a little bit of an European flair to it. The young and friendly owners are very attentive. The place is right off Union-square and walking distance to interesting sites, shopping, metro, restaurants and cinema. Have fun :)

We stayed nearly two weeks at Contempo on our first trip to NYC. We loved every minute.
The best part is the location. Can't beat it! So close to Union Square, a major transport hub which makes you close to everything in Manhattan.
We also appreciated the fact that the apartment had a decent amount of space - not so much that you couldn't heat it (very important if you are from the antipodes and find yourself in NYC during a polar vortex winter) but more than enough not to feel cramped.
When enquiring about the apartment via e-mail I was a little put off by some of the e-mails, which seemed a bit on the agressive side. No fear, the owners and staff were ALL lovely. I've since decided it must simply have been a misunderstanding.
We loved the designer touches. We understood there is further work planned.
The filter coffee was a lovely touch, as were all the helpful notes about local restaurants, places for breakfast, bars and grocery stores. We appreciated the note warning us to allow time for the hot water to reach the top floor. We also found they cleaned and changed out linen just about every other day - much more often than we expected. They also take your security and privacy very seriously. They provide a code for after-hours access, but during business hours they monitor comings and goings personally.
Before leaving I had three little worries. Would it be warm enough? Would it be quiet? Would it have enough space. All three requirements were more than met. With two radiators, two portable heaters and two air conditioners you can have whatever temperature you'd like! Given there is no immediate access to the outside (which is fine, because our plan was not to sit in our apartment and stare at walls) the noise is kept to a minimum. Not to mention double-glazing and double windows. And the space was just right.
Climbing some steep flights of stairs would not be for everyone. But if you are looking for a very clean and convenient base from which to explore, then this is the place. We would definitely stay here again and we would definitely recommend it to others.

We stayed 10 nights at Contempo in early November for our first trip to New York and were pleasantly surprised by the location and size of the rooms. Being so close to Union Square which is a hub for the subway, made life so easy to get around manhattan, the Greenwich village area would be one of the best locations on the island. The rooms are modernly decorated and huge for NYC, extremely well priced, albeit not meticulously well kept (our standards may be a bit high). This was our first trip to the city and it was a little strange not to be greeted by a hotel reception, but we knew that before booking, and anything we needed we emailed to the hotel and they would promptly look after it for us, sometime hearing us coming up the stairs and coming out of a room to hand us print outs etc.

I would highly recommend the hotel and when we go back it will be on our short list.

We stayed in a studio apartment for 5 nights as we felt it was a better option and better value than a hotel. The location is amazing, right on 5th avenue, but the room was so quiet at night you would never believe it. The studio was a good size, it was clean and comfortable with free Wifi and a little kitchenette. The shower was not amazing but for this price and location in Manhattan it is a minor gripe. I would definitely recommend to friends visiting NYC.

Room Tip: Ask for the room at the back on the second floor - it is very quiet.

We stayed at the Contempo Design Suite (Deluxe Studio/1 Bedroom Apartment) for 10 days as we didn't want to stay in a hotel for that amount of time. The apartment was well appointed with a kitchen, large living space, comfortable king bed, separate bathroom, free WiFi and towels where changed every 2nd day. The apartment was clean & very quiet double glazing on the front windows. Maria (The Manager) was brilliant nothing was ever a problem & she was always happy. We had done all our bookings via the internet & communication was always prompt & precise. The location is so central to all that this area has to offer & you could walk to most areas or the Union Square subway was just around the corner. Great area for restaurants, bars & shopping. Greenmarkets are held every wednesday, friday & saturday with the most beautiful produce to be bought. Great supermarkets just around the corner especially Wholefoods. We loved every minute of our stay here & would highly recommend to anyone wanting something different.. Beats a hotel any day. Cant wait to come back & stay here again.
