“The place to be in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

You're so close of everything in Manhattan and it's so quiet as well and secure. I think it's a good point when you're looking for a place in NYC...
We get a one bedroom suite, which was very well decorated, and very clean.
The king bed in the room is comfy, and you can use the sofa in the living room as a bed.
The kitchen is all furnished, you have free tea and coffee.
You even have the flatiron in the room, which is quiet rare !
You almost fill like you're home...!
Don't be afraid to see walls through the window, you are in NYC...
The only very small bad point : no elevator...(very very small bad point)
Thanks again Maria for this !

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

We stayed in the two bedroom suite for 6 nights in May 2012 (4 with another couple). We really enjoyed staying in this place. The things we really liked about the suite:
- Great location. We loved it here - as other reviewers have said. Close to the subway to get anywhere, out of the busiest areas of the city, but also close to great was easy to walk thro
- We liked the little hotel safe to be able to put our passports, etc.
- The kitchen had the basics - we didn't end up using it at all :)
- Upon check-in, they did provide info as to the closest grocery stores, recommended restaurants in the area. This was great. The only thing that would have made this better was a map.
- The beds were amazingly comfortable
- The suite was very clean. We weren't expecting much service given the style of accomodation, but they did made our beds/clean out the garbages/change our towels on a regular basis -- which was more than expected.

The only very minor negatives that I had were:
- the two bedroom suite is on the second floor directly above the stairs. The first set of stairs are quite old and therefore quite noisy - so you could hear the comings/goings of everyone. That being said - this was pretty minor as it isn't a big building!
- the two bedroom suite is at the back of the building - so similar to the descriptions - just be forewarned that there isn't much natural light in the suite - ie. all windows basically face brick walls. We didn't mind this - as I think being on the back of the building helped drown out some of the construction noise besides us - but just something to keep in mind.
- the biggest negative was the door of the suite. The combination lock was great but the door didn't seem to fully close 100% tightly - so just made us a little nervous as far as if it was actually locked/anyone could get it.

All in all - if I were to go back to New York I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Fabulous location right on Fifth Avenue in Greenwich Village. The area is very lively (but not crazy noisy and busy like Midtown) with lots of restaurants, small eateries and cafes in a sort of university area. Both Washington Square Park and Union Square are steps away, Meatpacking and Soho about 15 minutes walk. I did not pay attention when booking and expected a suites hotel. Turns out to be a small guest house but great place nevertheless. They don't have the normal 24 hours reception but you have the owners phone to call or their doorbell to ring if you need anything. I loved the homely atmosphere and the room decor. The kitchen was great to have (they also provide coffee and tea, herbs and cereals). Very quiet place, not much going on but after our busy days this was a plus.
The only pain was the two (long) flights of stairs to climb after walking miles and miles!

Room Tip: Book the room through their own website if you can, it will be cheaper!

Wonderful place to stay in the Big Apple.
Very good situation, only a few steps from Union Square , Broadway, and it's on the Fifth !!!
Very quiet , king size bed, coffee & tea in the room , huge choice of shops in the neighbouroud, subway station 5 minutes away.

We went 6 days in this place with our daughter, we recommend this place to everyone who wants to stay in this amazing city for a few days ( or more ).

For someone who has spent a lot of time in New York City, this is a fantastic place. For new visitors, be advised there is no full-time staff, lobby, or other services you get at a hotel. there also is no formal closet or room safe.

The upside? Incredible value and location, spacious room, full kitchen, and feeling like you live in New York! The staff was very communicative in anticipation of my arrival, and even allowed an early check-in after my red-eye flight.

Room was well laid-out with plenty of power outlets, great TV and media (free netflix streaming!), free wifi, and more.

I say the room itself is "average" only because there were some repairs needed in the bathroom, the hot water ran out one day, and... the lock on the room door is flimsy. There is a coded security door to the street, but I would have felt better with a deadbolt on the room door.

All told, I'd be glad to stay here again and like the feeling of a secret NYC discovery.

Room Tip: No elevator or bellhop, so lower floor = less schlepping.

This place is so good I’m not sure where to start. Our suite was every bit as good as it looks on the website. (The web photos are a more accurate depiction than the pics I took.) It was incredibly spacious which is simply not normal for New York. There’s heaps of room to spread out. The bed was excellent and the sofa-bed was comfortable for my teenager to sleep on though it didn’t work quite so well as a sofa. Still, it was a luxury having a sofa. We didn’t cook but it was very handy having a kitchen. We also used the breakfast bar and stools for snacks, writing and using the computer.

We stayed in the one-bedroom suite on the third floor in December. The steps were only a problem when lugging suitcases up and down, a small price to pay for a place of this quality. What you see on the website is what you get – funky, stylish, contemporary accommodation with the added bonus of a kitchen.

This is an excellent location between three subway lines and one block from Union Square. There’s a small market across the road and a bigger one on 14th Street. Though there are plenty of eateries at University Place, we preferred the short walk to Bleecker Street and the heart of the village for meals.

For New York, this place is very good value, especially if you look at how much space and what you get for your money.

The central heating was slightly erratic, though I think that’s in the nature of the beast, and extra heaters were provided. The bathroom was a bit cold and I wished I had my slippers with me. I should mention it was immaculately clean. Please don’t let these small reservations put you off. This place is fantastic.

I’d stay here again at the drop of a hat. In fact, if I get the chance to go to New York, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

We have been at the contempo design suites in New York Manhattan for four days in July 2011 and it was an excelent expirience in every way.

The Contempo Design Suites are newly renovated (2011) an not only equiped with up to date television set and media access (Media-server, WLAN) but also impressingly decorated with well picked design-furniture. Everything seems to be new and perfectly clean.

Our stay at the Contempo Design Suites couldn't have been better and was much above my experiences in good hotels in NY. This place felt like home.

Everything was very clean and the service was more than you would expect from a good friend, highly attentive at all times. The owners, a very warm-hearted couple, ensured that we lacked for nothing during these four days and even provided us with many useful information.

I'm looking foreward to return at my next time in NYC.

Five Stars in every category.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be at the same level.
