“Rename as 'Hotel Transylvania'”

For those of you used to travelling in the Third World or with military experience serving in Iraq and Afghanistan then I would say, "Go ahead and book a room - it's a steal at these prices!"

However, for those of you who enjoy the finer things in life - these little luxuries like running water, a duvet, a flushing toilet and a bathroom door that actually shuts, then please do not consider staying at Hotel Transylvania!

I understand this hotel is also 'pet friendly' which came as no surprise to me on stepping into the 'shower' and discovering a carpet of black, wooly hair. I don't know who keeps gorillas in New York but they seem to have taken their pet on vacation here.

The hard-pressed cleaning staff are, however, a delight. The po-faced reception staff are a completely different story and are reminiscent of the prison guards in Tenko - which is quite handy as it prepares one for the tiny, whitewashed cell awaiting you a few floors up.

The only possible reason for staying here is if you have a strange longing to return to 1962 - one look at the carpets, rooms and furnishings and...KABAMM!...you are there!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the elevators - it'll keep you up ALL night and we had to change rooms after th...

This hotel was the most inexpensive options available at our time of booking, and looked to be fairy decent on the online profile. It turned out that the only good thing about this place was the location. Otherwise, not much positive to report! It took the better part of an hour to cue up just to check in, and we were greeted by extremely indifferent staff. The rooms are very basic, bed was tiny, and the whole hotel wasn't particularly clean. In addition to other hidden charges on top of the price of our initial reservation, parking is an additional $45. Nothing special is included in the room rates, not even wifi. They charge $3/hr for this. Overall, this hotel served a purpose for our short stay in NY, but I will not return to stay, nor would I recommend anyone else to stay. I have stayed in some pretty grotty places over my travels throughout Asia and beyond, so I am not particularly picky. As for this place, truly it is not worth the money.

I went to New York as a school trip and we stayed in this Hotel I'm assuming because t was cheap. This Hotel was terrible! Mold on the ceilings in our room, peeling and cracked walls, small bathroom, either freezing or scalding shower, dirty sheets and disgusting carpet. This Hotel could be the set of the Shining, its so old and creepy. They should really tear it down. Never get the free breakfast, its a small crappy orange juice and a disgusting muffin. New York City was amazing and it was a good thing we were so busy our else we wouldn't have been able to sleep in this dump.

Room Tip: Pick a different Hotel!

I admit upfront I didn't do my usual research before agreeing to be booked into this hotel. This property is disgusting and the management should be ashamed charging close to 300.00 per night. What did that get me? A tiny , dark room with visible mold and water damage on the ceiling, an a/c unit that was so loud you could barely have a conversation and that worked feebly at best, and atiny bathroom that doesn't appear to have been updated since the 1920's. The mattresses were old. If you must stay here, bring your earplugs.

This is not an hotel !!! it's a factory !!! customers are not considerated just as a number, you must make a queue for check in, the first room given was already busy by other clients, then have to make queue again to have another room. Rooms are poor, dark and decrepit.. No free Wifi, paying luggages room (4 usd per luggage) but the clerk there was the only one pleasant in this hotel. For sure, we will never return in this hotel. Our great regret, for 100 Euro more we could have booked in Waldorf Astoria

Unless you want to feel what it is like to be abused by reception and the filth and old smelly rooms
than book a room at the Garbage Dump of New York. How the NYC Hotel Association allows this dump to charge more than $40.00 a night I will never know. If you are from the farmland of a third world country you will find this Garbage Dump to be OK. If you want to sleep 10 people in a room this is the place. If you are on a very low budget this is the place or sleep in the street it will be cleaner than this Garbage Dump with the walls peeling paint the carpets dirty and the people who work there have the worst attitude. I complained and the front desk manager told be" If you dont like the dirt change hotel". So I did.

Room Tip: Stay away unless you like to be in a dump.

This place was the worst. Hair all over the bathroom, mold on the walls, rugs were dirty, curtains falling off the walls, stains all over the bedstread. As soon as we walked in the room we call management for them to see these disgusting rooms. They sent up a newly hired 17 year old male staff with keys to different rooms. One floor up and they were slightly better. The staff are rude and not helpful. We travel to NYC once a month and have stayed in several different hotels this was the worst place I have ever stayed and the price unacceptable. We paid over $250 for three rooms each and our stay was wasn't worth $25. Do Not stay here.

Room Tip: Do not stay here...
