This particular Macy's, though it's the most famous one, somehow manages to have money, but no class. It's noisy and while it has a lot of stuff in it, isn't welcoming or particularly conducive to making one want to stop and buy any of it. If you're a shoe-a-holic, do visit the 2nd floor shoe floor to say you've been there. it's fine to visit for a short time, but for your own sanity sake, and especially for the sake of your loved ones you might be travelling with who are less inclined to shop, do yourself a favor and get right back outside ASAP to enjoy Manhattan, especially if you have a tight schedule. It's just another department store and on a slightly more confusing and noisy scale - I like Macy's, but just not necessarily in super-size. There's weird little shops nearby in the Garment District, or quaint ones along Columbus Ave or two Century 21's to choose from and all sorts of good stuff on 5th Avenue. Go explore there instead.
