Just back from 4 nights in NY, staying in the Tribeca Grand. We loved downtown NY, so the location is good, just below Canal St.
Hotel is very cool, not the typical corporate hotel - there is no desk in the room, and lighting is a bit dim (if you do need to work), this wasn't an issue for us. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and though we were on the 2nd floor (including Friday and Saturday) we didn't find the noise that other reviewers mentioned an issue.
It's not cheap, but what is in NY, and internet is included (unlike many other hotels).
Personally we prefered Soho to Tribeca, so I think I would stay in the Soho Grand rather than the Tribeca Grand (I did stay there about 10 year ago). But they are really only about 5 minute walk apart.
I would definitely stay in a "grand" hotel if I was in NY for pleasure.
