Sofitel New York is located in a very convenient location, close to Times Square and subway. The hotel staff were very welcoming and was greeted every time we entered the hotel. We stayed a luxury king bed room which had an amazing view of the Empire State Building. The room however was smaller than expected, or at least the space wasn't utilised properly and slightly run down. I've read many reviews that the bed was very comfortable, but unfortunately it wasn't for us. The king size bed was made of 2 beds (I know many hotels do this), but the beds weren't level in the middle with one side lower than the other. My husband and I joked about going uptown and downtown when rolling one side of the bed to the other.
The standard of this hotel did not live up to our expectations of other Sofitel hotels we have stayed in, and given the price, there are other options around the same area.

We stayed here after staying in a number of other "upscale" New York hotels and this was by far our favorite. As at every Sofitel I've been to, the staff was incredibly friendly without seeming overbearing. It's gotten to the point that walking into a hotel and hearing a "Bonjour!" brings on a comfort response in me. We upgraded to a small suite, and it was perfect for the two of us. A cozy living room, with a comfy couch, and a cozy bedroom with an amazing bed, and then a huge, inviting bathroom. The location is perfect - close enough to times square and all of the trains that stop there for easy travel anywhere in the city. But the hotel is on a smaller, quieter street and feels very private and removed from the noise. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the drinks were good. Room service in the morning was prompt. Overall, it was a typically wonderful stay at a Sofitel, something I hope to have the chance to repeat in the future.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a standard 1-bedroom suite from a basic room for about $100. In my experience, Sofite...

This hotel is like being somewhere you've never been before! It's clean, tidy, the people are friendly, and for a five star...it's not expensive! And if you're expecting to hear loud New York...you'd be surprised! It's quiet and the beds are the best you've ever slept in! It's also 100m from 5th avenue!

Hotel location is great, but otherwise not a good experience. Nothing wrong with hotel/room, but it's details that count. E-mailed in advance to make sure we'll have a coffee maker in the room, but it wasn't there. Got it, but had to call every day to get refils. TV reception was bad, losing the signal repeatingly. When ordering a pay movie, all I got was "no signal". Next trip, an other hotel on the same block.

We got a very good deal on our room and decided to try the Sofitel even though we don't usually stay in midtown.

Consistently greeting guests with a cheery "Bonjour!", from the bellmen to the reception staff, the Sofitel team is professional and welcoming while remaining unobtrusive.

We were initially put into a small-ish room with a cramped view, but asked if there might be something a bit larger available. Despite our request having been made at 2 am after a very long flight, staff were accommodating and moved us right away. The room we then got was beautiful and much bigger; the separate-shower plus bath makes for a really good space. And, of course, the city views simply can't be beat.

We had a door lock malfunction which was quickly attended to by hotel staff -- we had to leave quickly and realized that the door was not locking. Reception staff sent someone up who realized we in fact needed someone on the security team. Seeing that we were on our way out, he told us not to worry and that he would take care of it as well as ensuring that the room was secured. We were impressed by that, too.

Nice linens, warm wood, excellent housekeeping -- if you can afford this kind of luxury (or get a deal on it), the Sofitel offers excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the city -- not just another building.

This was our second stay at the Sofitel and we had a wonderful time. From the time the cab pulled up in front and the doormen took care of us and directed us to the checkin, the woman at the desk was attentive and friendly and when our requested a higher room she accommodated us. Our room on the 20th floor was large compared to other hotels in NY, the bathroom was clean, the tub and shower were separate, the towels were plush, it was all inviting. A very nice touch is was the small candle and matches for a relaxing bath.
We had the best sleep in the hotel, the pillows were perfect and the bed had a soft pillow top. Our bed at home is firm, the way I like it but this bed was very comfortable!
We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the Gaby restaurant in the lobby. The croissants are the BEST! They are made onsite and they taste like the true French croissants. Delicious!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: The room on the 20th floor was great, we had a view of the Chrysler building and we lucked out on gr...
