Our family of four - mum, dad and two teenagers - stayed at the Embassy Suites from 26 July to 4 August 2005. We thought it was just great.

We booked through the Hilton group website and got a good, competitive rate and prebooked a river view room.

Our 8th floor suite looked out onto the Hudson and consisted of a main bedroom with kingsize bed, a lounge room with foldout (comfortable) sofa bed for two, and a good bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is excellent - busy at 9am but not a real problem even at that time - and the two hour free drinks reception each evening is a nice touch. Overall, I could not fault it and would definitely stay again.

In the same building as the hotel are several restaurants: none of which are anything to write home about but not at all bad. There's also a deli/bagel shop and - kids loved this - a multiscreen cinema. World Financial Center is literally across Vesey Street and that has some useful shops, takeaways and restaurants too if you don't want to stray too far.

The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to Chambers Street subway and midtown is only about 10 minutes from there. At $24 for a week-long unlimited use Metrocard for the subway and bus network, travel is really easy. You can always get a cab or bus (there is a stop for a few routes just outside the hotel), but traffic is such that this takes much longer if you plan to go any distance. Ground Zero is two minutes on foot (and in fact you'll walk right across it on a temporary footbridge to get to Church Street, Century 21 store, etc). Battery Park is an easy walk along the splendid riverfront promenade, and really just about anywhere in downtown Manhattan - even Chinatown and South Street Seaport - can be walked from the Embassy.

We're really glad we chose to stay where we did, rather than say the Times Square area. So much more relaxed.

We'll be back!

“New York's best un-hip hotel”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

My boyfriend and I live in the city but had to stay in a hotel for a week with our dog while our apartment was being worked on. The Embassy Suites was one of the only dog friendly hotels that had room available that week. We loved it! While it is not at all "hip"- the suites are huge for the price, comfortable, tastefully decorated and the location is just great. You are right on the water and at the edge of Battery Park where you can run, skate, relax on the grass, look at the Statue of Liberty or watch the sun set. The beds and pillows are goose down, the food from room service was delicious and you can't beat the free happy hour from 5:30-7:30. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't need a scene and wants a lot of room for their money. the hotel seemed to be very popular with families.

“Excellent hotel and service”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

An excellent hotel with superb staff.

When we arrived we were met by the bellboy and shown to our room only to find it was occupied when we got there. The other people had requested a transfer and were in the process of moving. A quick call from the bellboy to reception and two minutes later we were on our way to a new room.

We stayed here on the last leg of a 3 center trip and my wife uses a wheelchair so with three people, two weeks luggage and a wheelchair to get to the airport I thought a taxi would be too small.

I'd noticed an advert on the plane coming from Crown Limos offering limos from Manhatten to JFK for $60 (there was also an advert in some literature in the suite). The day before we were leaving I ordered a limo for 2pm. By 2:10pm there was no sign and our anxiety increased when we saw another family were also clock watching, waiting for Crown.

There was a privately owned limo standing a the front of the hotel and the bellboys had a word and told us he could take us. When the concierge phoned Crown to be told they would be at least another 20 minutes the offer was gladly accepted.

An excellent hotel with superb staff (especially when things don't go according to plan) but if you are tempted by Crown Limos adverts remember the old adage "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys".

“Great location”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

Overall we had a great stay at the Embassy Suites in Lower Manhattan. We enjoyed it being in a quieter location than downtown. However, be prepared to spend a lot on taxi fare or learn to ride the Subway. We walked to Ground Zero, St. Paul's church, Battery Park and don't miss the Jewish Heritage Museum just a few blocks away. The breakfast was fantastic. The housekeeping service could have been better. There were five of us staying in a suite (which is smaller than we expected) and we had to constantly ask for more towels, wash cloths, paper products, etc. We had a wonderful stay in New York. We booked a tour on the New York party shuttle. It was a semi private tour in an air conditioned bus with a great tour guide (Robert). It was six hours - part riding - part walking and then we were let off at the Empire State building to spend a couple of hours there. Money well spent to get a real feel for New York.

“Good for families”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

This past weekend I spent two nights at the Embassy Suites hotel at North End Avenue in New York City, near the WTC site. The hotel offers two rooms, one comprised of two double beds and the other a queen fold-out sofa, table with chairs and microwave and mini-bar in a wet sink. The suite was immaculate and sizeable, with televisions in both rooms and ample storage space on the bedroom. We arrived four hours before check-in and were able to get valet parking for our car ($60/day since it's an SUV) and spend the afternoon sightseeing. Check-in is at 4:00- they checked our bags and did a pre-check-in so it worked out well. We attended the complimentary happy hour and it was fine, rather noisy and fun. The complimentary breakfast is excellent- omelets made to order plus just about anything else you could want to eat. The staff was friendly and helpful and the suite was quiet. The hotel is about three blocks from the Chambers subway stop and you pass through a pedestrian walkway over the WTC site on your way to Chambers. There is a gorgeous view of the Hudson River on one side of the hotel, and across the street there is a lovely playground beside the river, with a view of the Statue of Liberty. I would definitely stay here again if I brough my kids to NYC- definitely more to my taste than hotels in the Times Square area.
