Based on the size of the room alone, I would stay at the Embassy Suites again, but only for a reasonable price. This hotel offers straight forward no frills accommodations in a city with a wide variety of options. If you're traveling with more than 2 people, this hotel is perfect, the suite with two rooms will be a saving grace amongst the small rooms typically offered in the city. The hotel itself is outdated and could certainly use a refresher, but I enjoyed the location, especially being so close to Battery Park. A short walk down the river will offer some amazing views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty! however, if you want to be in the middle of all the action, this isn't the place, the only action you're in the middle of is a bunch of construction.

The free cocktail hour and breakfast were not appealing to me, they were both crowded and offered bottom of the barrel food/beverage (but it's "free" so I guess I shouldn't complain.

In short, if you are traveling with more than 2 people and can get a room here for less than $150, go for it! I myself, wouldn't pay much more.

This was our second trip to NYC and our second time at this hotel. Once again, it proved to be the perfect NY hotel. With 3 college students, it accommodates all of us well. Lots of mirrors, nice size bathroom with a bar sink as well makes getting dressed go pretty smoothly.
The hotel is beautiful, as many have commented... soaring atrium with a view of the Hudson each day! Breakfast was wonderful and wait staff were so hospitable.
The location is good - a movie theater right outside the hotel, lots of good restaurants nearby. Subway is about a 10 minute easy walk. Close to Little Italy, Canal St. shopping and Century 21.
Hotel staff are professional, efficient and friendly.
There is a laundry on site.
We were able to book a room for 269. a night so this was a great price for a room this size complete with a hot cooked to order breakfast!
Didn't make use of the parking.
Business center was really nice...allowed for printing and there were many computers available. No free internet in rooms

Took us ages to decide on which New York city Hotel to stay at during our visit and because of the great reviews and pretty good prices we decided on this one, glad we did!

The Hotel is very nice and clean and the rooms had plenty of space, there was a front room with a sofa and TV and then a Bedroom at the back with another TV. Bathroom was nice also. Only thing that i found a little strange was the lack of hanging space in the wardrobe, with all the space in the room the hanging space was very small and the iron also went in there. We were only there 3 nights so it didnt bother us but if you were staying for any longer it might.

Never got to sample the Free Breakast or managers hour but wish we had! as theses are included in the room price its great value.

Hotel is in a nice area, doesnt look like there is much going on from the front of the hotel but if you walk around the back there are some nice food places with out door seating looking over a marina.

Yes the hotel is not right in the middle of all the action but its all only a few minutes away by cab or a short walk to public transport. I.m glad we stayed here as we got to see more of the city.

Overall the hotel is great value for the price and i would stay again when visiting New York City.

Stayed there June 11 - June 15....As soon as you get there the entrance is really nice....As you step in the hotel, it blows you away...So huge! and pretty! Everything is marble...then the check in was fast...We got there at 9am...Thank God we were able to have the complimentary breakfast right away! and it had so much! The omeletts with like 8 different kinds of toppings to choose from, scrambleds eggs, bagels, sausage, cereals, coffee, apple & orange juice...staff is friendly and breakfast is EXCELLENT! you could repeat as much as you want! then thanks to GOD we leave the breakfast area...as I pass by the concierge desk...it was like 10am YES! we get a room! the room was also perfect, EXTREMELY clean! BIG...the pillows are great! I was with my girlfriend and my parents we had enough space...and was all perfect.

The location is lower manhattan...We knew that from the start. Location is perfect...you walk less then 2 mins from the hotel and there is the Hudson river...all nice! Since we had the Statue of liberty cruise booked for that thursday morning we walked alongside the river...and saw the shops and financial distritcs....It's really nice...

Subway....Yes it is somewhat far from the hotel...CHAMBERS STATION...we would always take a taxi there...It'll run you like $4.30....tip the guy...$5.00 Total! not bad! And Subways run you $2 per person....If its 4 of you....They have a $7 for 4 people thats what we would always get.

-The hotels is extremely nice, I do not understand why this is not 4 or 5 stars hotel.
-Location is great, lower manhattan is nice. ALL IS GREAT.
-Would I go back?? YES!

Go out there...you'll love it! And yes ask for that map at check in time....it has EVERYTHING perfectly laid out.

Way down near the southern tip of Manhattan, near Battery Park - so not quite so accessible to Times Square, for example, as some other properties. But great for access to the World Financial Center (which is where I had a business meetings to attend, on every occasion that I have used this hotel), so very convenient if that's where you're going.

Also close to the sobering sight of Ground Zero ...

Staff uniformly friendly and helpful. (Where is the stereotypical abrasive New Yorker? Certainly not working at this hotel!) If you ask for directions to a NY landmark they will whip out a map, mark the route for you, write down the bus numbers or subway lines you need to take, and / or order a taxi.

Rooms (suites, actually) on the river-facing side of the hotel have a great view of the Hudson, and of the New Jersey shore, and in some cases of Lady Liberty. Personally, I enjoyed it - watching the river traffic, the ferries; occasionally even a helicopter, flying by no higher than my room it seemed to me!

Rooms / suites on the other side look out on buildings, I think - I only stayed one night in a room on that side, and then requested a change, which they very promptly obliged me with. Room rates are slightly higher on the side with the view ... :) All suites quite spacious, certainly by European standards.

Outstanding Western-style breakfast - eggs any style, prepared in front of you, waffles, pancakes, sausages, rolls, bagels, the works.

As some other reviews mention, this hotel is very much in a business district, so the streets around do get deserted after dark - which can be a little unnerving. The nearest subway stop is about a 10-minute walk; but there are always taxis available just outside the hotel.

Not necessarily a great location for a tourist visiting NY for the first time, but absolutely perfect for business visits in the area.

  • Liked — Walking distance of business destinations; good service
  • Disliked — Not really for first-time tourists
