Weekend getaway for my husband and myself. Upgraded to a river view room (rooms are already very cheap for NYC), and it was definitely worth it. The views of the river were gorgeous. The hotel is very quiet, and located way away from the mania and filth of areas like Times Square. We did not leave the general Battery Park area all weekend - plenty of wonderful restaurants with excellent views, and a Whole Foods located a very short walk away. Drawbacks: we were charged for OPENING the mini-bar (did not consume anything from it - rather Big Brother-ish); turn-down service advertised must be requested, is not automatic; ice must be brought to you (and tipped for); did not receive a newspaper even though we were asked upon check-in what paper we would prefer; the hotel restaurant is outrageously expensive and of average quality - departure morning ordered "Pastries and baked goods" for $14 - got one TINY danish, one TINY dry banana muffin, and 1 TINY brown (bran?) muffin; requested late check-out (1:00) but key-card would not let us back in after 12:00; no one is around to open the very heavy doors for you at any time of the day; nice roof top bar, but the martinis were around $20 a piece, good, but not that good. Overall, nice experience, will go back, especially if they keep the prices of the rooms down.
