“Very different, but good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I had no idea what the Yotel at the corner of 42nd St. and 10th Ave. would be like, but was pleasantly surprised! The room was small but clean, modern and very comfortable. There were none of the typical amenities you find in most hotels, but there was a coffee maker, drink machine and ice machine in a locked room on the floor. Although the coffee maker was not working the entire length of my stay, the hotel did offer coffee and muffins each morning in the restaurant. For a charge, the restaurant did also offer additional breakfast items. Additionally, the restaurant did have a full bar and offered lunch and dinner each day. Check-in and check-out were done unassisted by a computer, but was very easy and there was someone there to help if you needed it. The location of the hotel was great and was walking distance from Times Square. The price was right and I would definitely stay here again!

My friend and I stayed here for 5 nights for a Christmas break. The rooms are quite small (especially for two girls and all their clothes & make up) but reasonable for such a central location in New York. There was an MP3 player socket attached to the tv which meant we could listen easily to our music. The rooms have been sound proofed and therefore we didnt hear any noises from other guests. The bathroom set up was a bit strange. The bathroom is completely glass with a thin white curtain to pull over when it is in use. It is not as bad as we first thought but just make sure you are sharing with someone that you are quite close to!

As we were there at christmas time there was free mulled cider & cookies in the afternoon. The free muffins in the morning were also great. We ate in the hotel two nights for convenience. The food was delicious and similar prices to other restaurants in NY. The cocktails were some of the best we had during our stay!

We found all the staff very helpful namely the conceirge and the guys at the door.

The reason I have given the hotel 4 stars is due to the slow wifi. The wifi was advertised as fast paced however we struggled to look at simple sightseeing websites without a five minute loading time. We were on the 20th floor so I am not sure if we were far from the router as often the wifi was quicker in the lobby.

I would definitely visit this hotel again due to its modern interior, central location, coffe/muffin freebies & friendly staff however I think it is more suited to couples than friends.

The room size is great for a weekend break. The location is fine. ...a little on the edge of the main areas but fine! Took about an hour to get from jfk airport in taxi approx $70 including tip. We didn't have breakfast there although it was included......we went to the tick tock diner instead. The bed was comfy enough, the shower was okay. There is shampoo/body wash hair dryer and towels included. The kitchen was handy with tea and coffee and ice water available. Also a microwave if u needed it. You could hear people in the corridors a fair bit but not too bad. The main issue we had was that at the end of our stay we tried to use the yobot to store our suitcase.....Unfortunately the laser that notifies you if a case is too large didn't go off. It proceeded to take our suitcase and as we watched it going towards the space we could then see it wasn't going to fit. However it continued to try push the suitcase in and all we heard was a cracking noise and the suitcase was stuck and crushed. I submitted a claim form and was told a manager would be in contact as I am claiming for a replacement suitcase. Having not heard anything I emailed them a few days after. Unfortunately I still haven't heard anything so have had to email again. What was an enjoyable stay has been somewhat tainted by being ignored.

This hotel is well located about 5 minutes walk from Times Square. Close to Hells kitchen where you can find many restaurants. The hotel is quiet and the free mufins and coffee in the morning is an added value.

Returning for a third time tells you that we really like this hotel in NYC .

We still really like it , however this time had to raise a few issues , which is never fun but feel we were taken seriously and that's wha matters

I still can't stress enough what a great location yotel is , particularly for people visiting NYC for the first time.
It's our 5 th visit and we still find the location great for everything.

You are so close to the heart of things ( 8 minute walk ) and right by the bus station and subway should you need to get around further a field.

Ok so the little issues ...

We arrived early for check in , but at yotel you can do a self serve check in , so we thought we d see if it showed room as available . It did and within minutes we had our key and were heading to a room on 12th floor. We didn't register this fact as we were tired but when we got into the room we realised we d actually booked a high floor ( views are great )
We went down to mission control ( reception ) and pleased to say within a few moments we had been fixed up with a new room on top floor with view of Empire State . Brilliant . But when I asked why we d been given the 12th floor room ( as we would have taken it up with our travel agent if a mistake ) the livrly receptionidt explained thst as we checked early , the computer system simply gave us the first available room. This is fine however if somebody didn't feel confident to query the room or didn't realise this system they may miss out on a higher floor room. I don't think the system is wrong however it may be useful if it flagged up thst as you are early you are being given an available room as opposed to the room you requested.

On our room we had a problem with the shower , in as much as the chrome casing which indicated where hot and cold is , kept spinning round so it was hard to know at first which way was hot or cold , seems minor I know but was really annoying .
2 plug sockets were unusable .
Trim off edge of desk kept falling off.
Again doesn't seem much but not what we are used to here. I'm sure that these were fixed soon after we had alerted the staff on our departure.

The biggest issue we really had was unfortunatly was with our experiences in the bar. On previous visits we have made good use of the bar as it was always A relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed some of the snacks and cocktails.
On our first evening there was a private function being held in the main bar , so there was a covered area in the terrace with heaters and seats . We had drinks and they were great - no issues at all ( in fact it was 2 for 1 happy hour so really good )
Evening 2 after the day out we went to the normal bar . My husband ordered a gin & tonic , which on tasting was more like gin and water . My husband went back to the bar and wasn't really met with much help . The bartender tasted the tonic from the pump and stated he didnt think there was a problem .. And simply gave my husband a plastic cup with more "tonic" . In our opinion if a guest isn't happy with a drink , an alternative should be offered, but in this case it wasn't and so the drink was left almost full and we went to our room.
We went to the bar the next night and again found the manner we were treated unacceptable and the bar staff rude.
When we last stayed in May , we he the pleasure of meeting a really friendly bartender , who we chatted to and found really helpful , we don't expect a lot but a friendly greeting is pretty much compulsory in a service industry .
Ok so on the day of departure following a minor problem when checking luggage , we spoke to a member of staff and some of the issues were discussed. The person we spoke ( Julio) urged us to talk to his manager , but it was our last day and we had plans so we left. When were returned a few hours later Julio said he had spoken to his manager and she was keen to talk to us as she wanted to make sure we left happy and importantly would return.
the director of mission control and ground , Tara came to talk to us and listened to all of our issues. She took everything seriously and also explained a few things to us that we didn't know about , such as the booking systems etc.
we had a good conversation and Tara gave us her card and asked that we contact her directly ahead of any future visits.
It goes to show that a little attention goes a long way as following this conversation we got in the taxi to the airport and said we would no doubt go back again.

I really love yotel, but I guess it's a busy time of the year and sometimes things aren't perfect .

I will still recommend yotel, it's a great place and I have only included the issues as I feel it's good for other travellers to see the facts and how they were resolved .

No doubt see you again soon yotel. :)

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in mid December, good location as we were able to walk to all locations in New York City. As mentioned in other posts the staff at the front desk ground floor are extremely helpful, nothing is too much to ask from them. We stayed in an executive cabin and were happy with the room, however, after sleeping on the "mattress", we ended up with severe back aches due to its concrete like nature. We went to breakfast and pondered whether we should seek alternative accommodation, we decided to speak to the staff at the 4th floor desk, they told us that they were aware of the mattresses and asked if we would like to move to a room which had a 'test' mattress. We happily agreed and moved our luggage immediately and found that the upgraded room had a softer mattress.
The hotel does have an upmarket backpacker feel to it made even more so with the number of Germans staying there, but overall the hotel was pleasant to stay in.
One more minor fault which someone else commented on, our daughter joined us and stayed for one night, upon her departure she used the hotel transport to convey her to LGA, $50 flat fee to take her but the driver drove as if he was racing in a Grand Prix and on one occasion had to use his hand brake to prevent a collision.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a test mattress

The hotel was very clean, the staff was friendly, and the location was great. We felt we got a good value for our money. However, as we checked out we were encouraged by the front desk to use the car service instead of a taxi. We were told there was a $50 fee to "the airport." When we got in the car, we discovered we needed to go to JFK after we asked for a terminal that didn't exist at LGA. The driver was abrasive and rude when he informed us of our mistake, but we didn't think anything of it. When we arrived at JFK, we handed over $60 ($50+tip) and the driver barked '$70!' and when we tried to explain we were told $50, he argued and yelled and accused us of thinking he was trying to rob us. We realized there was a miscommunication but are weary of scams, so we wanted to confirm. He couldn't get a hold of the hotel and neither could we. This is not the point though.
The point was that as soon as we questioned him, he bristled and started yelling - every time we tried to talk, he barked over us and yelled 'this $10 isn't going to make me rich'. The point is, we understand there was a miscommunication, but the treatment we received was abysmal. He yelled at us, shouted obscenities and called us names. He wouldn't let us talk, refused to hear us out - I know it's only $10 and we would have been happy to pay it a) had we known - he had plenty of time to tell us, we hadn't left the hotel doorstep before we realized we needed to go to JFK, he just chose not to tell us. and b) if he hadn't been so ridiculously, abhorrently, disgustingly rude.
We spoke to the hotel afterwards and they apologized, however, this was Christmas morning and the whole process had the feel of a scam to it. This tainted our whole experience at the Yotel and unfortunately we will not be back under any circumstances and will advise friends and family to stay elsewhere when in NYC.

Room Tip: Try another hotel with trustworthy staff.
