“A trendy, expensive, tiny hotel room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

The hotel is clean and very trendy. The rooms are extremely small (maybe its the NY standard) and the upgrade to stay on a higher floor is not worth it. The location is excellent. The crew members are polite and helpful.

Maybe I'm the wrong demographic for Yotel (I'm 52) because I would've traded the robot, groovy lighting and free breakfast muffins for some cupboard space and a bar fridge in our room. My 16 year old daughter and I stayed in a premium cabin for 10 days and I got very tired of having to drag my suitcase out from under the bed to access my clothes. Some more wall hooks would've helped. And the air conditioning blasts the poor person in the top bunk - it goes on and off (loudly) all through the night. Having said that, the Yotel staff were lovely, it's really clean and neat and the kitchen puts out some great food. There's also a communal kitchen on each floor where you can make a good coffee and store your wine (of course, it could easily get nicked). Hell's Kitchen is a great area to explore - many good restaurants along 10th and 9th avenues and if you're a walker like me, you can hoof it to Central Park in the north and Greenwich Village in the south from there. So, if you can afford a bigger room than we had and you can handle the hard bed, go for it!

We had a 12 night stay at this hotel in Sept 2012 and it was very different to the reviews we had read for this place.

Our experience:
1. money STOLEN
2. dirty rooms - previous guests rubbish was still under the curtain separating the bathroom and bed area
3. 'gallery' facilities were often broken - coffee machine didn't work, no cups

As for the stolen money, I do admit fault that we didn't lock it in the safe (learnt from another review where money was stolen from the safe) nor in our luggage, but it wasn't exactly left out for all to see. LIving in a hotel for 12 nights, you tend to put things away in drawers and shelfs. The money i had was tucked away and you really had to go thru our possessions to get to it.
If housekeeping was that thorough, makes you think huh. The thought of someone going thru all your stuff while you put trust in their professionalism.

So 'mission control' was no help, they just hand you over to the security team and even when i gave feedback to them, I was pretty much ignored.

It's not all negative thou, the security team are doing their best, interviewing staff and updating us.

It wasn't a lot of money and I dont expect to hear from them again but it's a downer on the whole experience. Up to you what you make of this review.

Hi griffonbrux, thank you for your review. I am so sorry you had a negative experience. Our Security team, who is on premises 24 hours a day, is very diligent, and therefore our Mission Control Crew is trained to call them with these situations, which we take extremely seriously. However, if you have the time, as Guest Services Manager, I would love to speak with you directly to follow up. Regarding the claim you refer to above, per further investigation and follow up, the guests have removed their review from TripAdvisor. Again, I would be more than happy to speak with you directly regarding this. At your earliest convenience, please email me your contact information to gina@yotelnewyork.com. Thank you again griffonbrux.

A modern hotel for youngsters and the location is good, the rooms are tiny but the designs are great! If you prefer a good view of the city, the Premium View Cabin is your choice. The 4 is a great place for relaxing except weekend evenings.

Small rooms, but totally adequate. Everything nicely designed and also functional. Among the best staff we ever encountered at a hotel, friendly and helpful and modern attitude in the very best meaning of those words. Terrace and bar also very good, and free, excellent coffee around the clock. Breakfast very basic, just a muffin.

Hi egilk, thank you so much for your review. “Among the best staff ever encountered.” That is awesome! Don’t let those automated options fool you… we are all here to help, and we want to! As for the modern attitude, thanks for that last part, “very best meaning of those words.” Lol. We definitely do have a modern way about our style, but still looking always to lend a hand. Thanks again egilk. We hope to see you again soon! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly at reservations@yotelnewyork.com if there’s anything we can ever do!

Really enjoyed our stay in a Executive View Cabin. The room was on the corner of the building with two floor to ceiling windows. The room looked towards the Hudson River and we could just see a glimpse of Times Square.

The room was really clean and fresh and we felt the size of the room was pretty typical of a hotel room.

The gallery with cold water and free tea and coffee was a great idea, espically when it was right next to our room (we didn't have and issues with noise either).

Location was great - a bus stops just around the corner but it is also an easy walk to Times Sqaure.

Myself and my girlfriends stayed here last week for 3 nights and had the most fantastic time. The Yotel is amazing, super cool, modern and stylish. It is in a fantastic location, only 5 mins walk to Times Square, so central. The staff are amazing, every single one of them from concierge, to housekeeping to the front door staff, so friendly and so helpful. We stayed in the VIP suite and adjoining suites and all I can say is WOW!! The rooms are massive and the VIP suite is incredible with a totally awesome terrace. And what a view and what a great hot tub!!!! Also it is so great having free wifi, free computers to use, free breakfast with yummy delicious muffins! I would highly highly recommend anyone coming to NYC to stay at the Yotel. Thank you Yotel for an amazing time, I will be back!
