Description: Saro Bistro is a modern Eastern European restaurant focusing on the Balkans. Offering homemade seasonal Balkan cuisine, along with a regional wine list and an assortment of Balkan spirits makes the overall experience delicious, interesting and fun. Saro Bistro celebrates the eclectic seasonal cuisine of culinary treasures left by two long lost empires - The Austro-Hungarian Empire & the Ottoman Empire. The idea behind Saro is sharing that Eastern-European warmth with New-Yorkers, offering a cuisine which is new by recreating the old. Chef and Owner Eran Elhalal often simply puts it as: "Comfort food you did not get to grow up eating".

“A wonderful Balkan experience !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at Saro. We arrived casually, with no booking, and we where make most welcome. The Bistro is cosy and intimate, perfect location for a romantic meal. The cuisine is wonderful and the food beautifully presented. The warmth of the welcome included a little taste of some very special Serbian Brandy. Well worth a visit, only a short walk from the Subway at Essex St/Delancy.

“Outstanding - one of my new favorite brunch spots”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

I almost don't want to review this place, for fear the masses will discover how amazing it is!

Met a friend here for Sunday brunch and managed to get a seat on the front porch. Immediately, we were charmed by the mismatched china on the table, reminding me of time I spent in Eastern Europe - sets the perfect tone for the entire experience!

Every menu item is homemade and top quality. We started with delicious coffee and complimentary fried donuts rolled in sugar. The mimosas were amazing. The feta/bok choy omelette was perfection as were my friend's poached eggs. And dear god, the shortrib hash left us speechless. We couldn't resist topping off our meal with the Gluten Free hazelnut chocolate cake. Yum!

Halfway through our meal, the chef came out to chat with us, giving some of his background and inspirations, which we found impressive. It's rare to find such personal touches in a NYC restaurant. The entire staff was friendly and helpful, as well.

Can't say enough good things about this place and looking forward to sampling their dinner menu!

“Everything is homemade! What is not to love!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

The space is warm and inviting - cosy and a great date spot. The service is attentive and they are great with helping pick out food and wine. The food is homemade (bread, pasta, doughnuts, jams...you get the picture) and the menu changes with the seasons - there is something for everyone to eat. And if you like sharing then you can cover more ground as it is hard to pick with so many tasty options. All the wines are from the Balkan region and again, something for every palate. I am a huge fan of full bodied white wines and there are a few to chose from on the list. Also, if you are gluten free like me there are many options on the menu that come gluten free or can be made that way - all delicious! Especially the lamb and pork belly! Two of my favorites.

From start to finish the experience is delicious and fun! I love trying new things and this is one place where you can do that and will love it!
