I could have gone either three-star or four-star on Tapeo 29. The food and the service pulled it up to the higher rating, but I was tempted to rate this three stars for the unbelievably loud and annoying environment.
We went later on a Saturday evening, and at that time it was unclear whether Tapeo was a bar or an upscale restaurant. They had an all-night happy hour, and some patrons were drunk and screaming every word. We almost walked out because the atmosphere was so unpleasant.
We were seated next to to a table of screeching and inebriated young women, and none of us could hear a thing being said at our table. We asked to be moved, and the staff was VERY accommodating, which saved the evening.
The food was very good. Our table of six had so much that it is hard to remember it all, but everything from the cheese plate to the Salted-Cod croquettes to the Paella was all very good.
This really could be a much easier place to recommend if Tapeo 29 decided to be restaurant and not just another bar with drink specials. The food was great, but I'm not the type who wants to eat interesting and unique tapas while drunk people are screaming in my ear and bouncing off my chair. The bathroom was a mess--the one-foot-tall wastebasket was staked three feet high with soiled paper towel.
I'd definitely return earlier in the evening, but if you're looking for a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere later in the evening, I'd have to recommend avoiding Tapeo 29.
