“Mixed stay but a nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

The room was really nice. Welcome gift of cookies and wine was great and a nice touch. Dessert at Tenpenney downstairs was amazing. Breakfast is continental but bagels were out of this world. Only issue was parking. We stayed 2 days and were charged $168 dollars. Apparently, when we decided to pull out our car over the two days they charge an extra $56 dollars for that but did not say anything to us about being charged an outrageous sum (actually equilvalent to a full 24 hour charge of parking) just to pull the car out. Was very displeased with this. Had they advised us, we would not have taken the car out so that was not a welcome parting gift. Gym is NOT in the hotel but rather several blocks away. I was too lazy to venture out while on vacation but would have gone if it was in the hotel and definitely that would have been preferable. Maybe others are not as lazy as me.

Room Tip: AC very loud. Only several rooms per floor but still hallways very loud.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in July 2012 and had a great experience overall. We arrived around 11 am and our room wasn't yet ready, but they had champagne or red wine waiting in the lobby and gave us a glass to relax while they stored our bags and we figured out our next steps. The champagne and wine were available all day long to take a glass to your room or just sit in the lobby before heading out. A very nice touch that a lot of large hotels don't offer!

They also had NYC maps and helped us with directions before we headed out for the day. We booked this hotel through Living Social and check-in was smooth. They already had my voucher when i arrived, so I didn't have to do anything but give them my name and a credit card for incidentals.

When we got into our room later, they had left us a bottle of champagne and cookies in our room. Another unexpected, nice touch! As part of our Living Social deal, we also got an upgrade on the room, which seems to have meant we got a room on a higher floor. This didn't work out so well for us because our room ended up on the backside of the hotel, which meant our balcony overlooked other buildings and the air conditioning units. They offered to switch our room but we figured we weren't going to be there to use the balcony anyway, so we stayed put. If you plan to use the balcony, ask for a room on the front of the hotel.

The room was a nice size, with plenty of room for 2 people and a large suitcase to move around. They had a lot of nice little amenities that really stand out: 2 robes, champagne, wine and highball glasses, a corkscrew, a fully-stocked mini bar (which cost extra if you took anything from it), ipod station, flat screen tv with about 200 cable channels, free wifi, and even a vanity kit in the bathroom with q-tips and cotton ball (things I forgot to bring).

The bed was very large and comfortable. The bathroom has only a shower (no tub) but it came with a removable shower head if you wanted to use that.

Location: Very convenient. We were about 1.5 blocks from Grand Central Station, about 3 blocks from Times Square. Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby. About a half block from 5th Avenue shopping.

Service: Great! They always had a doorman there to help you with luggage, guide you, get a taxi, etc. The front desk people were very helpful. We asked for a couple of things and they got them to the room within minutes. Two nights they brought us oranges as a snack in the room.

Restaurant: This is the only part that I would rate average. We had a $50 credit and breakfast included every morning. We used the $50 credit and the food was so-so. I ordered a lobster linguine and it came in teriyaki sauce, which overpowered the lobster and just wasn't the right choice. Breakfast was continental and serve yourself. That's why I was surprised at the end when I was automatically charged nearly $5 for gratuity for the one day that we ate breakfast there. The attendant in the restaurant didn't do anything - not even come by the table to give us water. I don't mind tipping but you have to do something to earn it.

Business office: it was available for free but I didn't use it.

In all, I would highly recommend this hotel, just go out for meals.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front of the hotel.

We booked this trip through a Living Social deal. I must say that the rooms were very nice size and very modern. When we arrived we were greated and offered wine, champagne or water, while we waited to be checked in. The day door man was awesome and very pleasant to deal with as was the rest of the stay. We had a front view room with a small balcony, which was very nice. The only problems that we incountered was that the cold water would sometimes be warm. Other than that we had no complaint whats so ever. In our deal we had a $50 dining credit for the 10 Penny and the food was very good, it also included a self service breakfast buffet.
When we return to NYC we will definetely stay here again as this hotel is only blocks from Times Square and from Park Ave. Very centrally located.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a room facing the street. If they have them available they will offer th...

This place has its act together.

Really well located, affordable rooms that are a good size and great staff.

Probably might not suit young families but urban travellers and medium stay business why go any where else?

Room Tip: pay extra for a balcony over 46th st, the view is worth it

Great Staff, great room, fancy Bath, clean and fun. It appears all rooms have balcony's but the rear rooms just look at the back of other buildings, and the back corner you can see virtually nothing. My Brothers room was beside ours and on the back, but his was the front corner and had a little view. Ask for a front room, only real view.

Only real negative for us was that we Wish they had some rooms with two double beds, as we carried our daughter, which required a roll-a-way at $50 a night, or sleep on the floor.

Overall a very good experience, would say again, and recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a front Balcony

What can I say?? This is one great hotel! A friend and I stayed here for four nights on a girls trip. The hotel is beautiful and very clean. The service was awesome. All of the hotel workers were willing to help in any area they could and were quite funny. Its also located in a great spot. Your within walking distance of Time Square, Park Avenue and Grand Centreal Station.

Stayed at this hotel in June with my husband and daughter. It was great. The room was a great size for New York standards and the staff were great. Thank you so much for all your help with everything. Can not fault this hotel. Highly recommend this hotel. Room was very clean and once again from the house cleaners to the staff in the office and the bell boys..they were all great. Willing to help with everything from directions to recommendations on restaurants and helpful with maps and always willing to help. If you only have 1 child this place is great and the balcony was an extra that many New York hotels do not have. Close to everything yet far enough from all the buzz from Time Square. Had a front room with a view of the city. Thank you again for a great stay would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
