“NYC's hidden gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

My best friend found Between the Parks B & B for our annual BFF weekend and it was PERFECT. First of all the location is incredible, just a short walk to the 1 train which gets you just about anywhere you'd want to go in Manhattan, or the A train is just a few blocks further. It's in a great, quiet, very safe neighborhood. Secondly, Susan was a wonderful hostess. Breakfast was delicious and Susan was full of great tips, recommendations, and resources.

You simply cannot beat this price, and it is such an amazing value as well. I highly recommend Between the Parks for any single or couple travelers.

Room Tip: She only has one room and it has a double bed. The quarters are tight, but there is a private bathr...

We have found Susan's B&B on internet and we were not disappointed. the neighborhood is great. Susan makes everything very comfortable and she is so helpfull and kindly in giving information for a good time in NY. Her breakfast is excellent!
We'll return to NY and of course we'll stay at Between the Parks.

We were recommended Susan's B&B by a friend, and we were not disappointed. As other reviewers have said, the location is excellent. It is easy to get to most things (even on foot!), but once the door closes, the noise of the city is turned off. My wife has visited New York several times through work, staying in various downtown hotels. She said this was the quietest place ever. The accommodation is comfortable, and has all the mod-cons that you need. There isn't a TV, but this is New York, so why on earth do you need a TV?
Susan is an excellent host. She clearly loves New York, and is a bottomless mine of knowledge about culture, restaurants, museums, etc etc. We rate the breakfasts highly as well. By choice, we opted for the "healthy" version, but we never came close to eating everything. Coming from the UK, I thought bagels were over-hyped and tasteless. The local bagels were the real thing, and I loved them. I still won't eat them at home!
There are some excellent restaurants within a short walk, at fairly reasonable prices. We must not forget Zabars shop nearby. Go in as a tourist, and you will come out with something, even if you have never heard of it before.
Susan's website is a tourist guide to New York in itself. It is well written, well researched and essential reading. She does flag up that this is not a spacious Hollywood interpretation of a New York appartment. Space is at a premium. If you want fabulous views and double windows, you will probably have to ask Donald Trump if he has anything available. We will stick with Susan.

After our second stay at Between the Parks for the last weekend in June, we have already booked our reservation for a four-night stay in November. The Upper West Side location, steps from the subway and neighborhood restaurants and shops, is perfect. The bedroom is quiet and comfortable, the bathroom perfectly fine, and the breakfast is great--Coffee, orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, and breads from nearby Zabar's, served in the bright living room with interesting art and lots of books. But the best part of this B&B is Susan, the owner and host! She is charming and interesting and knowledgeable about everything going on in New York as well as the world. We have sometimes had to force ourselves away from our conversation at the breakfast table in order to go off on our daily adventures in the city (or allow her to go about her daily activities). We feel more like friends than hotel guests.

If you are looking for a comfortable "home" and "host" as you explore NYC, nothing could be better. Susan makes everything so very comfortable and is so helpful in planning your time in the City. The local neighborhood is great, too. Shopping and restaurants within easy walks down the street and Central Park and all it has to offer is right there. Also, with everything else around town so expensive, you feel like you can splurge on the town because you are saving so much by staying here. The only reason I give it only four stars is that it really is "just" a comfy room in a midtown apartment - nothing more. It isn't some fancy hotel. But, truly, the nice breakfast, friendly conversation and advice, and great location make it all you really could want. We'll definitely be back next time we are in NYC.

In November of 2012 my mother and I started planning our Easter trip to the States .Most of our time was spent in Washington but we wanted to pop in to NYC for 4 days. After a lot of research and through tripadvisor ,my mother discovered this bed and breakfast and we decided that this was the best place to stay in terms of location ,price and the fact that we would be staying in a new yorkers house. It turned out that Between the Parks exceeded our expectations .Located in the upper west side and only a short walk from Central park and the Natural History museum, we could pretty much access all the main sights from there ,either on foot or by metro ( the subway is just a 3 minute walk from the apartment and line 1 is extremely convenient )
We arrived in NY with with the Vamoose bus at Penn station and from there we took the subway up to 79th street and in no time we were at Between the Parks. Susan ( the owner of the B& B and our hostess) right away came down to assist us with our luggages and welcomed us wholeheartedly. The setup in her apartment is perfect . As you enter the apartment there is this little guest lounge/reading room/ reception room where one can find travel books about NY with valuable information about everything you need to know about sightseeing , dining ,shopping.museum etc. The bedroom opens up on this room , and just down the hall is the living room the dining room and kitchen (where breakfast is served) but this area is private as well as the rooms on the opposite side of the corridor. The bedroom is very cozy and is systematically cleaned. The bathroom is connected to the guestroom so you have privacy and its just fine. Unfortunately the room does not have a view but it is quiet ,comfortabe and relaxing after a long day. The bed is large and comfortable...i tell you i slept like a rock those few nights! In the morning Susan knocked on our door to wake us up .I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast everything was fresh and delicious. Susan asked us if we approved and if we wanted something special.Breakfast included 2 bagels 2 croissants with cream cheese or marmalade, tea ,coffee - and the best- a beautiful and colorful fruit salad ( every day she had different fruit yummy!). The last day we brought a hot pink dragon fruit and we included it in the breakfast( the epitome of deliciousness !).
During breakfast we sat down and chatted with our wonderful hostess and she gave us advice.Susan is a very warm, trusting and welcoming hostess and manages to run this bed and breakfast entirely on her own .She treated us like family and told us that we were always welcome and to know that we had connections in new york. Our chat at the morning table was the perfect way to start out our day ...enthusiastically and optimistically .Susan is extremely helpful ,polite and a gracious person..so happy to have met somebody like that on our trip.
All in all, i dont think there is quite something like Between the parks in NYC. I strongly recommend it to anyone who plans on visiting ,we would DEFINITELY return ( cant wait till next trip!)....and especially, thumbs up to our hostess who truly made our stay memorable.Thank you so very much Susan!

Room Tip: there is only one room...but it feels authentic and special...just like a new yorkers apartment!

Wow! What a detailed, thorough trip report! Thank you so much for taking the time to describe your experience visiting with me in my home. Here and on my website I try to present an accurate picture of the apartment, the guest room and the amenities, and most important, the communication and high level of service that I'm able to provide, as an owner in residence, to each guest. You've done a wonderful job of "telling it like it is." :-))

It was delightful having you and your mom stay with me, and I especially enjoyed our "family-style" breakfast chats. I look forward to seeing you again!

We (an over-60 couple) had an excellent stay at Susan’s B&B for 8 nights in late March-early April 2013. Echoing what other commenters have said, we found the location simply ideal as our base for excursions throughout Manhattan and into Brooklyn. Adding to that the substantial and delicious daily breakfasts of bagels/rolls, juice, fresh fruit, and coffee, very comfortable bed, the great hot shower, the quiet and privacy, and especially Susan’s thoughtful advice, tailored to our particular interests, we couldn’t have imagined a better situation. The room is not large, but was perfectly adequate and comfortable. We found in Susan a kindred spirit and really appreciated her enthusiasm for and knowledge of the city. Her excellence as a host was a key factor in making this trip a memorable experience for us. When we have a chance to return to NYC we will definitely try to book with her again.
