“An "ok" option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

I stay in NYC frequently for business, but this past weekend I stayed at St. Giles Court because we had a deal from Living Social. My review is based on the several other hotels I have stayed at in the city.

Plus:
The room is abnormally huge for NYC standards
The location is "fairly" convenient. Especially getting there - it's literally 3 blocks from Grand Central Station.
The staff was friendly and they were reasonably accommodating.
The rooms were clean.
The price was fair - with the living social discount.

Negative:
The rooms / the decor was not well kept. There was definitely some "handyman" special going on.
The room service was the WORST I have ever had in NYC. And notably, the highest priced (and I have stayed at Morgan's, Kimpton, W). It was literally $80 for eggs that would have been tastier from McDonalds.
The neighborhood is in a business district, you have to get on the subway to get to the sights. There is not a ton of super dining options on the weekend within a block or so.
The downstairs there is a bar on Saturdays. I am guessing this is supposed to be a draw or something - but here's a hint - go to a real club - you are in NYC.
We got approved for late checkout but after coming back from our run in Central Park - our room key expired. Leaving us sweaty in the hallway. When security finally came up to get us in our room - we literally had no time to shower before we had to depart. So it was a stinky train ride back.

So in short, if you want a clean place - doesn't have bed bugs and is reasonably convenient - stay here. The price without the Living Social Discount might not justify it. There are some other amazing options in this price point (Hotel Roger Williams, The Royalton) which are far better then this one. So I recommend, but you probably can do better.

stayed one night and thought we'd take a flyer on this less expensive option. We won't be back. We were upgraded to a suite, which was nice and the rooms ARE spacious, as reported here, compared to other NYC hotels. But....carpet was very worn and pulling up in several locations. We were surpised to see no curtains on any of the windows, just darkening shades. The heating system was old, took a long time to warm the room and made hissing and knocking noises at various times through the night. The wire soap holder was broken and much of the furniture was nicked and dinged. In many spots they just threw a coat of paint on the old walls and it just doesn't work. It's just old and worn and badly in need of both systems and cosmetic upgrades. If you're looking for inexpensive, this may not be bad. If you're desirious of a "decent" room, spend a little more money and you'll get a much better hotel room.

You wouldn't say it from the outside, but the hotel was modern. Reception was very good, a guy called Danny, as i was together with my daughter, he gave us a room with 2 double beds, which was really nice, the view wasn't good, just some old appartments i guess, but.....you can't have everything;) Bathroom was fine too. It was a distance to time square or whatever but the yellow cabs were everywhere. Other then a complaint about the young woman that checked us out on the 14th of feb in the morning, we really liked the hotel and will for sure go back, just a bit longer, plans are already made for next year!

This hotel is quite lovely and spacious as far as New York City hotels go. Located on the East side of the city it's a bit far removed from public transportation but not impossibly so. My boyfriend and I only stayed here for one night but would definitely stay here again and for longer if we could. Everyone on the staff is friendly, attentive and nice (although the concierge didn't fit the bill and seemed a bit perturbed each time we approached with questions). There is an extra step as far as security is concerned that is appreciated but can also make traveling in the elevator a bit of a chore. The decor is tasteful and modern. We stayed in a king deluxe room and were pleasantly surprised by the space and setup. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is clean (we were a bit disappointed by the lack of bar soap though). There is a plush armchair by the window and a chair at the desk which makes seating comfortable. We ordered breakfast from room service and were greeted with a delicious tray quite promptly and graciously. The spread was delicious and reasonably priced. The only complaint we have is about the heating system. We probably should have called the front desk but chose not to. The thermostat never registered the room's correct temperature (never rose above 69) and the heating ducts blew out semi-warm air all night. Other than that it was a great stay.

My husband, I and two 21-yr-olds spent four nights in a junior suite at the St Giles Court at the holidays and it was wonderful and HUGE. Tastefully furnished, great bathroom toiletries, and FABULOUS views from our bedroom windows of the towering Chrysler Building in one direction and the East River-in-the-distance out another. Small walk-in nook of a closet area that allowed you dress in privacy while others were in and out of the room. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and everyday fresh apples in the lobby along with something surprising to drink ( fruit-spiked water, cider, hot tea) in the evenings. A hopping lounge is attached to the lobby (which we didn't visit when hoppin'!) and the location was terrific---within blocks of Grand Central Station. The fitness & business centers were two doors up in their companion hotel the Tuscany. Though I missed having a microwave and the bathrooms could use some updating they were perfectly adequate and our stay was delightful. We're going back!

Stayed here for two nights in mid February. I was incredibly impressed by the size of the room (especially considering that it is in the heart of Manhattan) and the special touches (Bang and Olufsen electronics etc). Def would stay here again!

Huge room compared to other NY hotels, comfortable beds, AC worked well and not overly loud. Great location and fantastic front desk staff. I have worked at hotels before and their customer service is exactly where it should be! :)
Only complaint is that internet is way to expensive but it is still comparable to other hotels in the city.
