“Very well located, old building but it's ok.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

I stayed for four nights, I arrived from the EWR airport via shuttle. It's was no easy to get the appropriate localization for the hotel but they got it eventually.

The first thing that I notice is a very good spot!! It's almost at the Gran Central Station, the cheek in was unusually fast, the building is not a brand new as expected, the elevator is also old, and the room has an unexpected distribution since the entrance is rare, the room is not a big one, but has a balcony, the bathroom was clear, clean and very nice. The TV, I don't know, the is not time to waste watching tv in NYC.

If you arrange your shuttle back to the airport with enoght time, it wouldn't be any problem at all.

The hotel is very well located, the room was very comfortable, if I need it again it will be in my list of choices. Recommended!!

Got great value with this room on Hotwire- only $145 for a double room. (Paid more than this for Hotel Pennsylvania, which is a great location but horrible rooms.) Great location, modern rooms, comfy bed, big TV, good service and.... free WiFi, which is very hard to find in Manhattan! Only a few blocks from Grand Central and there's a shuttle bus to the airport about 2 blocks away. Would definitely return.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

We booked this hotel on hotwire.com whose reviews were promising. After asking for a quiet room away from the street and facing the courtyard, we were given a room directly on 39th Street. After five minutes of listening to honking horns, I asked to be moved, and after several minutes of politely insisting on moving, we were given a very quiet room on a higher floor (with no street noise at all).

The rooms are small and clean but not luxurious. Although the bed was comfortable it had a dark brown polyester or rayon cover on the duvet that did not seem to me to be appealing, comfortable in the heat (or recently laundered). The bathroom was clean but the sink was clogged (a very cheerful engineer unclogged it quickly at our request).

The hotel staff were uniformly pleasant and polite, especially the doormen.

The free wifi in the room was patchy but appreciated. The a/c is too noisy to run at night, which didn't help in the extreme heat. We were surprised by the lack of basic hotel necessities; we had to ask twice to get a coffeemaker, and every time we needed ice (it was 90 degrees outside) we had to ask the barman or doorman to get us some from the restaurant, which is closed during the afternoon. Otherwise you have to order ice from room service! There were no blankets or lightweight duvets in the closet to substitute for the heavy duvet.

If the hotel provided more basic necessities and replaced the nasty brown polyester duvet covers with clean cotton covers (and laundered them after every checkout) this place would probably get much higher reviews. I consider it to be 3.5 and not 4 stars.

On my first stay I had a 3rd floor room with torn carpet and very lose fittings. Not great - especially considering the expensive weekday room rate. I came back a few nights later and was given a 12th room - better condition and with a great view and a great weekend rate. The concierge is helpful but I have no idea why the hotel's bar was closed on the Saturday and Sunday nights. Unhelpfully Reception did not know either. Midtown location is OK - balance of quieter than than Times Square area but still walkable.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor

Dear tee1104,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at The Court. We certainly apologize that your stay with us did not live up to your expectations. Though we are certainly glad that we were able to accommodate you in a room with a view eventually, we certainly regret that your stay with us was so uneven. We also apologize that Court Bar was closed during your visit. We are making some changes at Court Bar that prevent us from opening in the meantime. While Court Bar is closed, we are always happy to accommodate you next door at Audrey Bar, located in the lobby of The Tuscany, our sister property here in NYC.

I would love the opportunity to speak with you further about your visit, as we are always keen to improve our operations. Should you be so inclined, please feel free to reach out to me at chriss@stgilesnewyork.com or by calling 212.592.8877. We would love another opportunity to show you a true St Giles experience.

Sincerely,

Searched for hours for a competitive rate for 1 night for 4 friends and the rate and location seemed good. On arrival first noted very pleasant and helpful doormen. The lobby is small and very dark with loud rock music piped throughout. The elevators are tiny, barely enough room for 4 people with 1 suitcase apiece. The room size is average. Our room had 2 queen beds, full bath and a closet.
The room was also very dark even when all the available lights (not many) were turned on. Bathroom extremely small with standard tub/shower, tiny, outdated sink. The room had very few outlet plugs so we had to take turns charging our phones and had to unplug to use hair dryer or iron. No vent in the bathroom and the shower head flew off and hit one of our guests while they were taking a shower!
Extremely unfriendly and condescending female desk clerks working the morning. Made absolutely NO eye contact and responded very rudely when we asked if breakfast was included with our stay as there was a sign in the lobby directing you to a continental breakfast.
Believe the dark lighting to be less for ambiance and more to hide a somewhat worn out hotel.
Every male employee we encountered couldn't have been more pleasant. Also very friendly housekeeping staff.
There was really nothing outstanding about this hotel other than the location.
The location was excellent but most likely would not stay here again.

We stayed here for our Honeymoon and were upgraded. The staff were very friendly and the suite was a brilliant size, stylish and clean. Great location. Would stay here again and recommend to anyone.
Great view of the Chrysler building from the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level room as the traffic noise can be heard further down.

The staff was very nice (specially Maria), that helped us a lot and always very helpful and courteous. The location and free wi-fi in the bedroom and the reception was very helpful.
Another great point was the bedroom's size, which is very rare find a hotel with spaceous room. Really close to the Grand Central Terminal, which takes whatever you want.

Room Tip: I stayed at 1619 (16th floor), and it was possible to see the Empire State Building from the window...
