“Feels Like a Boutique Hotel - Helpful Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

We just returned from three nights at this hotel which has a boutique feel to it. We were looking for a safe, quiet room and found that and more. Our room was upscale and spotless. The footprint to the hotel is small (very few rooms on each floor) and we never heard one sound from another room. The staff members were exceptional, offering advice, calling a driver/car, and taking care of bags. We also enjoyed the restaurant off of the lobby....prices were reasonable for New York and breakfast was an especially good value. This hotel is located in a great location.....just a short walk to Madison Square Garden, Broadway, Herald Square, the Empire State Building, 5th Avenue, and to the 33rd St. subway stop. As a platinum-level Priority Club holder, we were given water and candy at check-in, but more importantly, the view of the Empire State Building, framed within the window of our 17th-floor room, was spectacular and the best upgrade EVER.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher-floor room to avoid street sounds. Amenities are housed one floor below the lobby...

Dear jtm52654,

Thank you very much for the nice review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. It's especially nice to hear good things about our restaurant. It's a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and the prices, as you mentioned, are reasonable. But, it's the food that is really the best part and it's exceptional. We get many great comments about the food.

Enjoy your holidays and we hope to see you again soon.

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time. I will definitely stay here again. We visit the city a couple of times a year.

The positives:
Near Herald Square shopping without being right in the center of it. Definitely walking distance.
Walking distance to Empire State Building.
The restaurant was nice and accommodating to us when we were there during off hours and just wanted a snack.
Our room was well appointed with two queen beds. Most if not all hotel rooms in Manhattan are tiny so this room felt pretty good.
Service was great.
Pretty good value for the dollar by NYC standards.
Clean - very important to me.

Negatives:
No counter space in bathroom for toiletries but we were able to use the dresser top to store things.
There is a bus depot right next door so sometimes there are groups of people hanging around outside waiting for the bus.

Dear SylmarTravelers,

Thank you for your very nice review. We appreciate your comments and I will be sure to pass them along to the staff. As you mentioned, our location is terrific and close to lots of shopping and entertainment and just a short train ride to just about anywhere in the city. I am happy that you had time to enjoy some food and drinks in our restaurant...it really is a great place for some of the best Italian food or, just a place to unwind with a drink after a long day of shopping.

We hope to see you again very soon.

Hotel great. Location was good close to the train where we could walk. We usually go to New York for the holidays. Close to Fifth Ave. and close to Broadway. Check-in good. Rooms good not very big but only stayed one night worked. Breakfast was very good. I'd stay again.

My wife and I did a one-night staycation here on a Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised with the modern décor of the room and the pretty good-sized bathroom. The halls on the floor were much bigger than in several Holiday Inn Expresses we have stayed at in NYC so we did not experience any claustrophobia. The bathroom was also much larger. It is easy to see why the Holiday Inns are a step up from the Holiday Inn Express hotels in the chain. The staff was pleasant and the street was quiet, but a short walk to excitement. We will likely stay here again.

Been to New York on many ocassions and have to say this is the best hotel we have stayed at. Young attentive staff, effortless check in, clean refurbished rooms, a fantastic restaurant off the foyer. But most importantly a superb location, quiet at night, but 100 yards from 5th avenue, and 100 yards from broadway. Could not speak highly enough of our stay.

This is not a randomly written review!

Because of my job, I stay in different hotels for 3 nights a week for the last 3 years, so I kind of have an idea for what to expect from a hotel stay. I don't write reviews but this time I felt that I have to write this and let everyone else to know :)

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights with my wife...This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. I have previously stayed in NYC hotels and was expecting same sort of stay but my thoughts all changed the minute I got into this hotel.

Reception staff was very helpful during our check-in, stay and check-out with all our questions and requests.

Breakfast was fantastic and relatively cheap.

Rooms were great, not very big but you will have enough room. We had 4 suitcases and had no problem with space, so you figure the size. Main thing that I was worried was the cleanness and I honestly can say that the rooms were superbly cleaned each day.

Location of the hotel is also great, 15 - 20 minutes walk and you are in the hearth of time square. 5 minutes to Penn Station.

All in all, this hotel is going to be my new address for anytime that I stay in New York.

Most of the NYC hotels require a 2 night minimum stay at holiday time, this hotel was perfect for our needs for several rooms for a one night stay. Also, we went to NYC as a large family group and needed a place to stay where we could walk from the train because there were a few infants/toddlers included and no one wanted to drag a car seat on the train in order to take a cab - with the subway within a few blocks, this hotel was the perfect fit!

Its a relatively small hotel and the rooms were snug - but very well appointed. We needed a crib, which they delivered to the room with 15 minutes of check in - and set it all up - really nice folks. The crib just fit in between the two queen beds. In addition to the 2 queen beds and nightstand in between them, the furnishings included a nice size desk/chair area, chest of drawers and small closet. There was a large new flat screen on the wall. There were sconce lights over the nightstand and a desk lamp.

The bathroom was clean and modern. Nicely tiled walk in shower and vanity with vessel sink. I got a kick out of the wall-hung hair dryer which had a nightlight built in. There were blackout curtains at the windows and the windows opened about 3 inches if you wanted to hear city bustle. Frankly, on the 15th floor - it was so quiet - no bustle to be heard.

Beds were ultra soft with 4 pillows each - marked with a slip off button as hard or soft - nice touch! I'm a fan of a very firm bed and with a soft bed like this will often request a roll away - but there wouldn't have been space. But the others all loved the cloud like matresses.

I know the hotel has been open almost a year since it was refurbished, but everything looked brand new!

The staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. We arrived before check-in and they opened one of the several rooms we'd reserved so we could drop our collective stuff and freshen up before heading back out, We dropped our bags off early on our day of departure and picked them up before heading back to the train and everything moved swiftly.

A couple of us are early risers (including an 8 month old) and enjoyed having a restaurant right downstairs off the lobby for early morning coffee and breakfast. The late sleepers weren't crowded by the early risers since they had a place to congregate outside the hotel rooms.

The hotel was just what we needed and we enjoyed the stay very much.

Room Tip: We were in rooms 1502, 1503, 1602 and 1603 and we had a great view of the Empire State Building
