We loved this hotel. It is very modern and busy. THe rooms are small but they serve the purpose of sleep, shower and getting ready to go out. This was the only time we spent in the room. There are broadway shows, bars, restaurants, Starbucks and this awesome little pizza place all in the area. Yes it is noisy but its NYC..lol Subway system on the corner and 2 minutes from Time Square and every Broadway show you can possibly want to see. Our ONLY complaint and I hope management is reading this as I think this important that they know this....We were told that we could store our luggage till we needed to leave for the airport. The concierge was very helpful and gave us good tips about when to leave and why ( be warned many cabs will NOT take you to the airport...it took the doorman about 15 mins to get us a cab that would take us). We went to the luggage storage desk to store 2 bags. We were "told" not advised by the 2 gentlemen working that "it is customary to tip and we wont be here later when you get back..." We have both worked in the service industry for over 20 years..not anymore but we still understand and remember how important gratuities are in this industry. We were insulted that we were asked to tip and the reason being that they would not be there later....We felt we were told because we were tourists and "did not know any better." Just to clarify we are both in our 30's and have careers outside of serving in the past. This was insulting and I actually was annoyed that my sister tipped them...We want to make management aware as this was a horrible end to a great stay at this hotel. If tipping is that important to staff then maybe post a sign on the desk or they split tips based on the day not per guest. To be told to tip and why made us feel obligated ( well not me..as I thought it was rude and inappropriate) at my previous serving job we would be terminated for encouraging a guest to tip or making the remark " I wont be here later..." Other then this it was a nice place to stay and we were happy with everything else including the area.
