“Harlem Grand is the place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Harlem Grand was everything we needed and more. The room was lovely, beautifully decorated with old fashion charm and the athmosphere of the old house something totally different than a standard modern hotel in any city. All beautifully renovated and cared for by the owner Kellyn. She also really made an effort to make our stay pleasant and work smoothly in every way. She showed us around in the neighbourhood making sure we knew where we could take the bus, the metro and places to have breakfast and dinner. The metro station is really close to the BnB and the A train (express train) serves this station so it is very quick and easy (10 min) to get down to Midtown/42nd street and also quite easy to get all the way down to West village and lower Manhattan. The area was nice looking and we felt secure at any time walking around there. The area itself actually has a lot to offer. A nice park, and it is very close to the north end of Central Park, many good cafés and restaurants, music entertainment, an art museum, a very big cathedral etc etc. In short we got the best accomodation in a very nice area at a very good price. It was actually nice to get away from the stress and noice around Midtown, Times Square and all of that. It was a treat to come back to our quiet street to rest a bit before going out to dinner. We recommend this B&B to all who value and like all the things described here.

We had a pleasant surprise waiting when we arrived. Kellyn, our hostess, was very accomadating with our flight schedules and gave us a car tour upon our arrival. We became quickly familiar with the ease of the subway and bus locations! After the very informative tour from one who has lived in NYC. we were deposted at a great luncheon restaurant. Upon our return, she had lugged our baggage to our 2nd floor suite.

The room was very large, comfortable and had nice seating for TV, grooming etc. The bed was very comfortable, the bath large and both adorably decorated. We were cozy and warm with our down comforter, listening to the rain after our exhausting sight seeing schedule.

Kellyn was very kind offering tidbits as we came and went and recommended fabulous places for breakfast lunch and dinner! People were very friendly and the food delicious. We will definetly be back! If we needed extra towels, they arrived with a phone call.

Thanks Kellyn for a marvelous visit to your great city. So much to see... We look forward to our next visit. Karen and Ron

Room Tip: Kellyn was very prompt via email inquiry and made us feel like guests upon our arrival. Thanks!

The B&B of Kellyn is super in every way! Kellyn is very friendly and so helpful! Right when we arrived, she brought us to the Deli next corner, so we could grab some sandwiches and some water. The next morning we went on a tour together in her car (it was very cold outside) and Kellyn told us every important thing about the area and Harlem. She showed us places where we could get some food, or go out or just have some breakfast...yes she doesn't serve breakfast, but that was totally ok with us. Kellyn also showed us the historical part of Harlem and for sure how we can go to the subway. So this is the other super part...the subway is just a 3-5 min walk away. If you take the fast train to downtown, it takes just 10 min or something. So the room was very large, everthing was clean and the miss who cleaned the room came every 3'rd or 2'nd day. So the place is wonderful, the area is wonderful and Kellyn was wonderful too. So we totally recommend her B&B and will come again!

We stayed at Harlem Grand for 6 nights and really enjoyed everything about the place.
The Innkeeper, Kellyn, was personable and helpful. From the moment we arrived we were offered a welcome tour (recommended) and shown the best spots to eat, drink and sightsee. Our room was beautifully laid out, spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. The location of the building is around the corner from the express A train and Times Square is only 2 stops away. We stay at B&Bs regularly and found the Harlem Grand's amenities, service, comfort and location to be a fantastic find. Our vacation was wonderful and we'll be coming back Kelly! Thank you.

It's a convenient place, close to the main subway in Harlem, and the room is a great size and it's quiet in the room which is super. The owner is pleasant to a degree. She lets you know quickly what the rules are, and no bending them whatsoever. She doesn't go out of her way at all to offer any amenities, not even some hot water for my own mug and own tea bag. Usually one pays the balance when they depart, but here we needed to pay cash asap upon arriving before receiving a key. Not sure why it's called a "B & B" if no breakfast is included, not even a coffee maker in the room. No one comes to clean the room.

My daughter and I stayed at the Harlem Grand for several days in October for college visits. We found that we were in walking distance to Columbia University, the subway, and the Metro which were all necessary components of our trip. The room was large and comfortable. We loved the charm with which the room was maintained. Kellyn worked with our schedule rearrangements when our flight was changed, and took us on a tour that identified places to eat, landmarks to find our way back to the house, and modes of public transportation available to us. Her suggestions helped up keep to a budget, but still have a wonderful experience that really gave us a sense of what it would be like to live in New York. Personally, we found Kellyn, our host, to be informative, helpful, and kind. We would definitely stay at the Harlem Grand again!

I stayed at the Harlem Grand for a week to attend a workshop at Teacher's College. The location was wonderful within ten minutes' walking distance. Kellyn was extremely helpful, and personally showed me where to shop, eat, etc. I ate in 3 of the restaurants she recommended, and they were all great! The room was very comfortable, and the house quite charming. The wifi in the room didn't work, which was a bit of a disadvantage, but I could work in the reception area.
I didn't get downtown much, but I'm from NY, so it wasn't a problem. I could easily have gone.
