“Somewhat "unapeeling"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

We were not thrilled with our dinner at Peels. I had the Short Rib special, which was moist and tasty with crunchy spatzle. My wife had the Succotash Pot Pie. Really disappointing. Minced, rather bland veggies under a dry biscuit. No flaky crust. Not a pot pie. Not a good meal. And a small serving too. The tuna tartare was nice,

When we arrived, we asked to be seated outside. After it started raining, we were moved to a first floor table inside without any attitude. Our server, Malik, was very courteous. Atmosphere was pleasant.

“bright and spacious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Light, bright and spacious by NYC standards. Booths allow conversation that remains private, unlike many NYC restaurants where your every word can be heard by those sitting at the next table. Service a bit slow, but we were in no hurry. Delicious breakfast biscuits.

“Popular spot, but disappointing biscuits”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

This was a pretty popular spot for a late breakfast when we ate there, but not packed. We were looking forward to the biscuits on the “build your own” biscuit option. Having had great southern biscuits at the famous Loveless Café in Nashville, we can confirm they are everything the Peels biscuits are not: they were moist, light, fluffy and flaky. The ones at Peels were dense and dry. We’ve had better ones at the breakfast buffets at Holiday Inn Express’s. The fillings for the biscuits were good. I had pancakes and they too were good. We hit a bad staff day as it was clear they were training some new people. Although there were a lot of staff at the place the service was awful. The other baked items at the counter did look good and the place is clearly popular. If you eat here, be wary of the biscuits.

“Great Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

This restaurant is very appealing when you're in the mood for comfort food. The bar has a great selection of specialty cocktails as well.

“Great food, fun vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

If you like something a little more laid back and not crowded, try Peels. The variety on the menu was great and the vegetarian summer succotash pot pie was out of this world! Cocktails are a little bland and overpriced, but the food is worth the visit.
